The season kicks off on Wednesday, January 13 at 12:15 p.m. with the Brian Lynch Afro-Caribbean Jazz Artist Ensemble, conducted by Grammy award-winning trumpeter and Frost School of Music professor Brian Lynch.
The Illinois native, who has been playing the trumpet since the age of 9, has received critical acclaim for his collaborations with Latin jazz legend Eddie Palmieri and bebop jazz legend Phil Woods.
The concert takes place at the Coral Gables Museum Plaza, on Salzedo Street, just two blocks north of Miracle Mile.
The free concerts will feature a different artist every week and offer working professionals, visitors and residents a fun and entertaining lunchtime escape.
"Listening to talented jazz professionals perform in such a beautiful, open-air setting in the heart of Coral Gables for free is a win-win for everyone," said Mayor Jim Cason, a jazz aficionado who attends most Wednesdays. "I encourage everyone, especially all downtown employees in Coral Gables, to walk over to the Museum on Wednesdays."
"Jazz in the Gables is a great opportunity to break up your work day by going outside and enjoying live music. Coral Gables Hospital is proud to celebrate our 90th Anniversary by partnering with the City to help produce these wonderful events," said Patrick Downes, CEO of Coral Gables Hospital. Coral Gables Hospital, a fixture in the City Beautiful since 1926, has been a proud sponsor of the series for two years.
