Population Estimates Coming Soon

The US Census Bureau is due to release 2015 subcounty population estimates and 2015 housing unit estimates on Thursday, May 19. 
BLS March Employment

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) announced on April 21 that 2016 March employment growth in TN was in the top 5 states! Employment in March was up 3.2% from 2015. See the BLS article here.
TN SDC Network

 

The State Data Center Program is a national cooperative program with the U.S. Census Bureau. Data Centers in each state assist the Bureau by disseminating Census data and other federal data sets and information.

 

Each Data Center has an internal statewide affiliate network to further assist in disseminating data to local users. These affiliates also have local information and expertise to offer.

Boyd Center Dedication

The Center for Business and Economic Research was recently renamed the Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research (Boyd Center) in honor of Randy and Jenny Boyd.

The Haslam College of Business dedicated the new name during a ceremony held April 15, 2016.

"Randy and Jenny's generous financial commitment to the center supports funding for faculty research initiatives, technology, and database and subscription fees, as well as efforts to maintain the center's national reputation for excellence and ingenuity," said Bill Fox, Boyd Center Director.

Census Bureau Mother Statistics

As Mother's Day (May 8, 2016) quickly approaches, the US Census Bureau has prepared the following statistics of mothers living the the US in 2014, ages 15 to 50 (unless otherwise noted):
  • 43.5 million women have children, equaling 95.8 million children.
  • 3.9 million women had given birth in the past 12 months.
  • 61.8 percent of women ages 16 to 50 who gave birth in the past 12 months were in the labor force.
  • 31.3 percent who gave birth in the past 12 months had a bachelor's degree or higher.

Older Americans Month: May  

Older Americans Month is May. To celebrate, the US Census Bureau put together some fun facts about the population that is 65 years and older.
  • 46.2 million people were 65 and older in the United States in 2014. 
  • 98.2 million are projected to be 65 and older in 2060.
  • It is estimated that in year 2033 the 65 and older population will outnumber those younger than 18.
  • 5.2 million full-time, year-round workers 65 and older reported earnings in 2014.
  • 81.9 percent of the 65 and older population had completed high school or higher in 2014; 24.8 percent had earned a bachelor's degree or higher.
