The State Data Center Program is a national cooperative program with the U.S. Census Bureau. Data Centers in each state assist the Bureau by disseminating Census data and other federal data sets and information.

 

Each Data Center has an internal statewide affiliate network to further assist in disseminating data to local users. These affiliates also have local information and expertise to offer.

Census Holiday Statistics

Below are highlights from the U.S. Census Bureau's recent release of holiday statistics, The 2015 Holiday Season
  • Retail sales in department stores across the nation were estimated to be $24.5 billion in December 2014. 
  • Department store sales as a percentage of total 2014 sales were 14.2 percent and jewelry stores were 18.2 percent.
  • Retail sales by electronic shopping and mail-order houses totaled $48.3 billion in December 2014.
  • The U.S. imported $1.2 billion in Christmas tree ornaments and $163.3 million in artificial Christmas trees from China between January and September 2015.
  • The U.S. Postal Service surpassed its own projections by 11.5 percent in package deliveries in December 2014.

5-Year American Community Survey Data Dashboards

On December 3, the 2014 five-year American Community Survey (ACS) data was released by the U.S. Census Bureau. This marks the first time that two non-overlapping five-year ACS estimates can be compared (2009 and 2014).

The TN State Data Center has prepared three dashboards with TN specific highlights from the survey. Slide the year filter to see how the TN population is growing, aging, and becoming more educated.
