CENSUS BUREAU RESUMES CHALLENGE PROGRAM

The Census Bureau is resuming its Population Estimates Challenge Program to provide eligible local governments the opportunity to challenge their official 2011 and subsequent-year population estimates by providing additional data to the Census Bureau for evaluation. Challenges may result in revised estimates if either a technical error in processing the input data is found, or if incorrect input data were used.

The latest estimates of total population for Metro Areas and Counties are due to be released March 2013. Cities and Town population estimates will be released May 2013. Challenges to the population estimates must be received within 90 days after the original estimate release date.

For further information and details, please see the Federal Register Notice. The Census Bureau Population Estimates Branch can be reached at 301-763-2385 or by email to Pop.challenge@census.gov.
