A MARTINEZ MINUTE

Dear GW Community -

The first week is almost over and everyone is settling in well! I know that getting back into the routine of early mornings, after school activities, and homework is not always easy or fun, but our students have been doing a great job - keep it up!

On September 9th we will be holding our Patriot BBQ and Back to School Night. Come at 4:30pm to get some food and meet staff members and other Patriot parents. At 6:00pm parents will head to their student's 1st Period class and then follow their daily schedule (with each period lasting 10 minutes). You'll be able to meet your student's teachers and hear about what they have in store for the year.

See you there!

PICTURE MAKE-UP DAY
On Thursday, September 3 from 7:30am - 1:30pm, LifeTouch will be on campus to take ID pictures for students who do not come to registration to get their school ID. Student are not permitted to get a new picture if they don't like their current one.

SCHEDULE CHANGES
The last day for schedule change requests is Friday, August 28. Counselors will be in the Pikes Peak Lobby during lunch and after school to make schedule adjustments. Changes to a student's schedule will only be approved for the following reasons:
  • If a student is requesting a  course level change
  • If a student has already earned credit for the class
  • If a student is missing a required core class for graduation
  • If an IB student is missing an HL or SL
WATER BOTTLE FILLING STATIONS
Over the summer we installed five new water bottle filling stations around the school. We encourage students to bring their water bottles to school and use these new stations. It's hot out there - stay hydrated!

SHADOWING FOR 8TH GRADERS
Scheduling for 8th Grade Shadowing will be available on our website starting at 8:30am on Friday, August 28. The first available date is Tuesday, September 15. We only offer shadowing on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays and are only able to host six students each day. If a time is no longer available, that means it is at capacity. Shadowing will last through the end of January.

ATTEND GW'S FIRST PATRIOT PRIDE FAIR
Friday, August 28th from 2-5pm, GW is having its first Patriot Pride Fair. This fair provides an opportunity for us to rebuild our culture of equity and inclusion outside of the classroom and embark on what it means to be One George. Our wonderful Junior AVID students are partnering with Goodwill to put on this awesome event. The goal of this event is to provide a platform for students to get to know their peers, learn about and sign up for active clubs in the building, and to hear from some GW Alumni about the importance of participating in extracurricular activities. Classes will be held on a pep rally schedule on this day.

This year at George we will be posting regular volunteer opportunities via email. To receive these emails please SIGN UP HERE. If you have been a regular volunteer at George in years past or are a new George parent this year, please join this email group - no commitment is required!
