IMPORTANT 2014 REMINDERS
Just a few things to keep in mind for 2014:
- If you work in one of the boroughs of NYC, there is a new law going into effect that requires employers to accommodate pregnant employees. The NYC Commission on Human Rights prepared this poster http://www.nyc.gov/html/cchr/html/publications/pregnancy-employment-poster.shtml with a summary of protections that employers can post in a public spot.
- If you work in New Jersey, that state legislature passed a new law requiring employers to post information for employees to understand their right to be free of gender bias in pay, compensation or benefits. Here is the notice required to be posted: http://lwd.state.nj.us/labor/fomrs_pdfs/EmployerPosterPacket/AD-290GenderEquity1-14.pdf.
- As mentioned in our August 2013 newsletter, beginning on April 1, 2014, New York City companies with 20 or more employees will be required to provide five days (40 hours) of paid sick leave each year.
If you have further questions regarding any of these items, feel free to contact Chaim Book, cbook@mb-llp.com or Todd Parker, mparker@mb-llp.com.
