Rutland Building Bright Futures
Your source for all things early childhood
Greetings,

Welcome to the  November 2014  issue of the Rutland Building Bright Futures Monthly Newsletter. I have been on the job for just over two months, and there has been a flurry of activity on the state and local levels ranging from the Changemakers for Children: Education, Outreach, and Advocacy Training, to the eventual rollout of Vermont Insights v1.0-a partnership between Building Bright Futures and the Vermont State Data Center that will broaden the scope of data that is relevant to the well being of Vermont's children, families, and communities. Of course I can't forget to mention our 2nd annual Fall Event for Rutland BBF, Just Play? No Way!.

We want to try and consistently populate our newsletter with any news and information related to world of early childhood by emailing them to [email protected].

2ND ANNUAL JUST PLAY? NO WAY! EVENT BIG SUCCESS....

90 people including children, parents, and grandparents converged on the Godnick Adult Center to watch the little ones immerse themselves in 2 hours of creative hands on activities.  The excitement was palpable!

Susanne Engels, Principal of Northeast Primary, gave the opening remarks discussing the importance of healthy brain development in children through play.

There were a number of activity stations set up where children could participate.  These included music, dramatic play, dance, yoga, art, reading, water play, child size farmer's market display, clean mud, dental care, breast feeding nook, and healthy foods station.

Food and Beverages were donated by Rutland Starting Points Network, Discount Foods of Rutland, Cabot Cheese, Champlain Orchards, and Westminster Cracker Company and Thomas Dairy. Door Prizes were courtesy of Price Chopper, Tops Market, Hannaford Supermarket,  Walmart, Head Over Heels, Mitchell Therapy Pool at Vermont Achievement Center, Cobra Gymnastics and Dance Center, The Toy Factory, and Jump fore Fun. Credit Union of Vermont and Keith II Sports provided great bags for everyone.

Special thanks to our community partners who provided resource information and  staff support  to  the event. They included the Rutland County Parent Child Center, Rutland County Starting Points Network, Vermont Department of Health, Vermont Achievement Center, Rutland County Head Start, Wonderfeet Kids Museum, WIC, Rutland Free Library, Gianna Wellness for Life, Childen's Integrated Services, BROC Community Action in Southwestern Vermont, Vermont Start with the Arts, and Vermont Birth through Three.

Below are some photos that captured this special day....

Stakeholders Gather to talk Data

On November 20th, early childhood and community data stakeholders and stewards came together to hear how the current Early Childhood Data Reporting System will transition  to Vermont Insights v1.0. Those present at the event were invited to share their input as the process begins to take shape. Vermont Insights is the result of an emerging partnership unfolding between Building Bright Futures and the Vermont Data Center. Its long term goal is to build an integrated early childhood (birth-8) system that is connected to the k-12, post-secondary education data system and other related public, non-profit and private data sources and systems (e.g. child welfare, health, families and communities)

Right now the system can be accessed at vermontinsights.org
