Greetings!

Welcome new Directors David Young, Trish Shabazz, and Stacy Weinberger! David is Superintendent of the South Burlington School District and a known champion for Early Learning and Development. Trish is the Director of the University of Vermont Early Learning Center, mother to a newborn daughter, and brings extensive experience in development and stakeholder relations! Stacy is mother to two young children, wife of Burilngton Mayor Miro Weinberger, former director of an Early Learning Program in Chittenden County, and importantly, a member of the State Board of Education, an important conduit of information and collaboration between the State Board and Building Bright Futures!

In case you haven't read the bill, Please see HB270 which passed in early May. The new law is Act 166. When you see our own Senator Kevin Mullin, Senator David Zuckerman, and Representative Bill Frank, please thank them for their role in the passage of this important legislation. Thanks to the passage of this bill into state statute, we now welcome Breena Holmes as Dr. Harry Chen's Designee for the Department of Health, Charlie Biss as the Designee for the Department of Mental Health, and Reeva Murphy who is able to serve and vote in the absence of Commissioner Dave Yacovone.

If you haven't seen the report yet, find the How Are Vermont's Young Children? Report on www.buildingbrightfutures.org. Happily, this report has been highlighted in multiple media outlets, radio, print and TV.

The Early Childhood Budget report continues to be honed into a final product. Reminder: this report is the first phase of a 2-phased Finance Plan for a Sustainable, Comprehensive System of Early Care, Health, and Education.

I am also excited to announce the hiring of Thom Firlik, our Finance Manager; Karen Conner, Communications Coordinator; James Wood and Nick Adams, our Data Analysts for the ECDRS. Regional Council Coordinator candidates are still being interviewed throughout the state, though a few have been hired. Once finalized, I will announce all at once, next month.

Last, July 8th and 9th is a 2-day Retreat intended to put the final touches on the Action Plan, allowing for a successful implementation of the Plan.

Sincerely
Julie Coffey, M.S.
