Greetings!

February continues BBF's intensive work to reshape, sharpen, improve. HB559 is making its way through the Legislature for hopeful passage, very soon. Bill Frank has shepherded this bill and we thank him for his effort. Reminder, this is the bill that would add 2 additional At-Large seats on the State Council and Designees be able to replace Commissioners of Health, Mental Health, and Children & Families.

HB270, the Universal Pre K Bill, is still held up until "crossover" for the moment but all eyes are on this bill with the hope it passes.

Though the State Joint Fiscal Committee has yet to authorize acceptance by the state of the Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge grant, this acceptance is anticipated and preparations are underway to begin implementation. For BBF, that means hiring a Regions Manager and Data Project Coordinator. I estimate the official start of the project sometime in March.

The Statewide Action Plan will be complete by the end of March 2014!

Read the latest on the Action Plan as we near its completion.

Also in March, the 2nd edition of How Are Vermont's Young Children? will publish & the long awaited Early Childhood Budget is scheduled for completion!

Don't forget to make it to the 20th Year Anniversary Early Childhood Day at the Legislature on March 12th!

Sincerely

Julie Coffey
