Countdown is on for the first day of school!
|
St. Mary's Academy has had a wonderful summer so far! We have had three full sessions of SMA Academy Adventures, two successful British Challenger Sports camps, Volleyball camp, private music lessons, a fun Math camp and many more events! As we wind down, we begin the countdown for the first day of school! The teachers and staff are preparing for the students' arrival in just a few weeks. We are very excited to begin the 2016-17 academic school year! The first day of school is August 29!
Orientations Days are August 25 and 26. Be sure to stop by the quad on Thursday, August 25 or Friday, August 26 from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM. You will be able to order SMA apparel, pick up your SMA directory, check out the after school programs, sign up for volunteer opportunities, explore band and orchestra options, sample lunch fare from Wholesome Food Services (Friday 10:30AM - 12:00PM ), and socialize! Make sure to stop by the Kona Ice truck for a treat!

Screenagers! 
SMA Academy Parents is proud to sponsor SCREENAGERS - a film that explores the impact of screen time on kids AND offers solutions on how we can help kids find balance. SMA sixth grade - twelfth grade parents and students are invited to see the film and participate in the post-screening discussions.

Check Out Our New Digs!
It's been a busy summer renovating the high school, which now sports a new roof, skylights and brand new lockers. We donated the old lockers to a charter school, The Early College of Arvada, and our sister school, Escuela de Guadalupe. Please feel free to drop by and check out the new digs!

 We wish to extend a warm welcome to those who are new to our SMA community. A special thanks to our parents who have done such a spectacular job contacting our new families and students. Thank you to everyone who recommended SMA to friends, family and neighbors!
The Admissions Department is embarking on a new season of tours, student visits, SMA Preview days, and our High School Open House. We invite you to volunteer to be greeters and guides for these events. If you are interested, the dates are listed under the Admissions tab on the website. In July 2016, Susan Odland LintonSmith '83 was promoted to CEO of the global sandwich brand Quiznos. Joining the brand as Chief Marketing Officer in 2012, Susan led the revitalization of Quiznos' marketing efforts with a greater focus on quality ingredients, menu improvements and simplification to re-energize store level growth and economics. In her most recent role as Global Chief Marketing Officer, she was instrumental in opening the China market and leading the opening of Quiznos Grill, a foray into a premium sandwich in a fast-casual environment. This summer, SMA Soccer Coach Allie Galoob '07 competed on the first place Team USA in the 2016 Deaf World Cup in Salerno, Italy. This is her ninth year playing for the US Deaf Women's National Deaf Soccer Team. She played in the 2009 Deaflympic Games in Taipei, Taiwan, the 2012 Deaf World Cup in Ankara, Turkey and the 2013 Deaflympic Games in Sofia, Bulgaria. In all of the tournaments, her team won gold medals!
