T-Minus 2 Days to Gala
|
We look forward to seeing more than 400 of you this Friday night forWalk on the Wild Side. Proceeds go to the Tuition Assistance Fund with 5% of this year's proceeds going to the Math Programs in each division.
- Location: The Wildlife Experience is located at 10035 Peoria Street Parker, CO 80134. It is one mile east of I-25 and Lincoln Avenue, at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Peoria Street.
- Parking: The Wildlife Experience has plenty of complimentary parking.
- Bidding: Be sure to bring your fully charged Smartphone to bid on Silent Auction items. Instructions will be given at registration.
- Dress: "Safari Chic" Cocktail Attire
- Happy Half Hour: Friday 6:00 - 6:30PM Complimentary beer and our Savannah Sipper signature drink will be served.
- Gift Bag: Attendees will receive a gift bag from Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage and Natural Grocers gift cards will be available. Please use the gift card and other offers you will find to support our sponsors and friends.
- 52 Card Game: Volunteers will be selling playing cards for $100 each. Bring some Benjamins and join the fun! Just after 8:45, the winning card will be chosen and the winner will selected one of the following Live Auction Items as his or her prize:
- Framed and Autographed Joe Montana Jersey
- Autographed Joe DiMaggio Baseball
- Ride the Hitch at the Stock Show
- Private Party for Twelve at Historians Ale House
- Spin the Wheel Game: Spin the Wheel for $20 and you could win a $1,000 Tuition Voucher or $500 cash (two winners will be chosen). Every time you play, your name will be entered into a drawing for one of these prizes. You also have a 50/50 chance of instantly winning a $25 gift card to a variety of restaurants and retailers each time you play! Thanks to all of our gift card donors.

Class of 2016 Scholarships

Congratulations! As the academic year nears its close, St. Mary's Academy is thrilled to share the graduating class of 2016 has been awarded 174 scholarships! The total scholarship amount is $7,365,340.00. 93% of the class of 2016 has received at least one scholarship offer. Congratulations to this hard-working and tremendous class. St. Mary's Academy looks forward to celebrating the Class of 2016 at High School Graduation on Saturday, May 21.

 The Standing O's would like to thank the following parents who supplied refreshments for the Spring High School Concert Monday evening: Stephanie Largan, Kim Hartman, Traci Sanders Leigh Hickerson, Todd Larabee, Elizabeth Hill, Adriana Williams and Shara Castle. The final High School Concert was filled with beautiful music followed by a nice reception. Thank you for your assistance!

The Coyle Gallery has a new show featuring our 2015-16 Scholastic Art Award winners, as well as work from Advanced 2D Studio. This will be a relatively short show (through the end of April), to make way for an exhibition of AP Portfolio/Senior projects in May. Come on by the gallery, located in the High School.
- High School Astronomy Club will be putting together a scale model of the Solar System near Sanders House May 9-13. Monday, May 9 will be the Transit of Mercury across the sun (from dawn to 2:00PM). Friday, May 13 is when SMA will be celebrating Astronomy Day. If you and your family are stopping by the Sanders House, please be sure young children are accompanied and supervised by an adult.
- Academy Parents are looking for various volunteer roles for next year's board. If you are interested in helping in any capacity please contact Academy Parents President Rhondi Clark.
- Save the date! All SMA families are invited to participate in Catholic School night at Elitch Gardens on Friday, May 20 from 5:00 - 10:00PM. Tickets are a reduced price of $24.99 and must be purchased in advance. If you have a season pass, you may use it, but you must mention that you are part of St. Mary's Academy as only Catholic Schools students will be allowed entrance on this night. Last week, the Lower School celebrated Earth Day. During Friday assembly, the students learned about recycling, water conservation and many other ways to be kind to the Earth. The students made hats inspired by nature and wore them during the assembly. Teachers won prizes for the most creative hats. Congratulations to Mrs. Gilmore, Mrs. Swanson, Mr. Leckenby and Coach Hood!

Congratulations to third grader Aleena Nauman (pictured right). Aleena received a Spanish award for her outstanding performance in class.
- Don't forget to check out the new LS artwork at the Starbucks on University and Orchard. The display rotates each month, and this month is a selection of six paintings from our Kindergarten students.
- SMA is providing Child Care during the Gala! Friday, April 29, 5:30PM - 12:00AM at the SMA Community Center/EDC Room. The cost is $50 per child and $35 per sibling after the first child. This opportunity is open to currently enrolled first - fifth graders with only 40 spots available. Drop off your kids at SMA for a night of fun while you attend the Gala. They'll spend the evening with friends playing outside (weather permitting), playing board games, making crafts, eating pizza and watching movies. - Congratulations to seventh grader Quinn Henninger! Quinn has been selected to the 2016 Junior National Diving Squad. He is one of four in his age group in the country.

Peru Afternoon will be held, April 29 12:55-3:10PM for seventh and eighth graders. This will include team building, sports, and service projects for our friends in Peru. We are asking for all grades to donate stickers, travel coloring books, pipe cleaners, mini colored pencils, colored paper, large Ziploc bags, manual pencil sharpeners, and card stock. All donations will be donated to the children at the schools in Peru.
- Save the date! The Middle School will be having its Art Show May 6-13 in the Middle School.

- Congratulations to Senior Fiorella Sobenes (pictured right). She was named the Student of the Week by La Voz. Click here to read the article and her profile.
- Some of the AP Environmental students constructed a compost bin over spring break. They will begin collecting leftover food, leaves, grass cuttings and other biodegradable items. The High School will place compost bins in the lunch room and other locations within the school for disposal of leftover food. The team is hoping to have useable compost by this summer to use on the garden on campus. Please look out for the new
compost bins!
- The High School Seniors and Juniors celebrated the Ring Ceremony last week. A long-standing SMA tradition, this year's seniors honored juniors with a short speech and presented them with their class ring. The ceremony represents "the passing of the torch" from the current senior class to the upcoming senior class each year.
- Attention incoming ninth graders: The 2016 Math and Spanish Placement Tests at St. Mary's Academy are just around the corner. Current SMA Middle School students will take the placement test during the school day in May. For all students not currently attending SMA, please take a look at the test details below:
- MATH: To start your High School math courses with Accelerated Algebra, Geometry or Honors, you must take our Math Placement Test.
- Date: Wednesday, May 18 6:30- 7:30PM (HS Room 3)
- Alternate Date: Monday, June 6,1:00-2:00PM (HS Room 3)
- Please contact Ms.Iswari Natarajan or by phone at 303-762-8300 x348. Also, feel free to stop by the High School office for any questions.
- Please be aware that a calculator is not allowed for the test. The topics are those of a typical Algebra1 textbook. Emphasis on the following: constructing, simplifying, and evaluating numeric and algebraic expressions, including those with integer exponents aspects of linear equations and inequalities, including systems in two variables, and simple application elements of quadratic expressions and equations (factoring, finding zeros), percents, square roots and similar triangles.
- SPANISH: If you plan on registering for level 2 or above please take the placement test. We will be looking at your comprehensibility, sentence structure, cultural awareness and how you handle different contexts or topics. The assessment will not be more than 1 hour.
- Tuesday, May 17, 6:30-7:30PM (HS Room 2)
- Alternate Date: Monday, June 6 1:00-2:00PM (HS Room 2)
- We do ask that parents do not leave or go far as the evaluation frequently takes much less than the allotted hour.

Admissions News & Events

This week the SMA Admissions Department gratefully acknowledges our wonderful students, parents and faculty. The admissions department has been very busy arranging tours and student visits to spread the good word about our amazing school. Thank you to Marilyn Chung, Kim Hartman, Diana Rael, Anne Longenecker, Cynthia Friedland, JJ Rutherford, Bonnie Sutherland, Iswari Natarajan, Tanya Komandt, Julie May and the SMA tenth grade. The seventh grade through tenth grade "Sister to Sister" celebration on April 22, was a big success. We welcomed over 50 seventh and tenth graders in an evening of food, music, games and dance. Thank you to all the students who launched this party.
- We welcome all new families to SMA! In just a few weeks, you will be receiving a call from a member of Academy Parents to answer any questions you may have. In the meantime, let us know if we can help in any way.

- Springs Sports Awards Banquet: Athletics will be hosting the SMA Spring Sports Awards Banquet at the Community Center on Tuesday, May 17- 6:00PM Dinner, 6:15PM Awards. We will be honoring our JV and Varsity Athletes for their accomplishments throughout the season. Please join us in congratulating our soccer, tennis, lacrosse, and golf teams!

The athletics department will be organizing interest meetings for SMA Cross Country, Field Hockey, and Volleyball! Our Athletic Director, coaches, and teammates will be there. This is also a great time to check your paperwork and current physical exam to be prepared for August. Go Wildcats!
