Two Semifinalists Named in the National Merit Program
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of
approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 60th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.  High school seniors Darcy Angus and Anne Clinton have been named semifinalists!

About 1.4 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the competition by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT (PSAT).  The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. High School seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.

The final awards will be distributed in spring 2015.  Congratulations to Darcy and Anne!

September Declared St. Mary's Academy Month
Today the Mayor of Cherry Hills Village, Doug Tisdale, visited SMA to share his enthusiasm and support for the school's 150th Year.

During our All Academy Play Day, the Mayor shared with the students a  Mayoral Proclamation that honored the school's founders, the longevity of the school and the school's role in Cherry Hills Village.   Mayor Tisdale noted that residents of the Village attend SMA and have served on the Board of Trustees.

At the end of the proclamation, the Mayor pronounced that the month of September is St. Mary's Academy Month in the city of Cherry Hills Village.  He read to great cheers from the students:   "I do hereby direct that this month be filled such celebration and flashes of merriment as befit this momentous occasion."

Hooray SMA!
Thanks a Million!

Thank you to the entire community for your patience, your smiles and your understanding during our week of crazy carpool during the BMW Golf Tournament.  Each day ran smoothly and efficiently.  Thanks to all who made that possible.  No mulligans needed here!
Middle School Diamond Tail Trip is Around the Corner
It's time for our trips to Diamond Tail Ranch.  Our sixth and seventh grade students head north next week for days of camping, hiking, laughing and sharing time as a class.

This year, we are so pleased to share that our group of High School technology experts (the "mice") have created a trip blog for sharing updates about this trip to the Diamond Tail Ranch.

Communication is always sparse and challenging when we travel to Diamond Tail, but we hope that the blog will provide brief updates of how the group is doing and what fun they are having.

Colorado Heritage Magazine Features SMA
The title, 150 Years of Courage, Tenacity, and Vision, by Regina Drey SL only begins to describe the thrilling stories and history portrayed in the eight-page feature from the latest edition of History Colorado's Colorado Heritage magazine.

Filled with photos from the SMA and Loretto archives and reflections from the pioneering Sisters of Loretto, it is a must read!  If you find yourself on campus, stop by the Sanders House to take a look or we hope many of you receive the magazine at home.

Also through History Colorado, don't forget that you can still register for the Sesquicentennial Tour that will be led by Sr. Regina on September 30.  Click here for more information or call (303)866-2394 to reserve your spot on the bus.

Finally, if you haven't purchased your copy of the St. Mary's Academy 150 Years book yet, drop by the Advancement Office, the Business Office or contact Regina Drey SL at (303)762-8300 ext. 261.  One copy is $40; two or more are $35 each.

SMA Celebrates 150th Anniversary
Tonight is the 150th Kick Off Reception at 5:30 PM here on campus. This wine and cheese reception is so you can see the exciting additions to the campus, peek at the construction for the Community Center, visit with your friends and meet some new ones.

We hope you had a chance to get your SMA 150th Birthday Cake flavor ice cream at Bonnie Brae during Labor Day weekend. But, if you didn't, don't fret -  it will be there through the end of October. Thanks to all of our SMA family who made that day exceptional!!   Get the Scoop!

The 150th Celebration Dinner on October 4 at the Hyatt Regency
in downtown Denver,  is less than a month away. We have received table purchases so friends can sit with other friends. It's a fun way to share the evening. We know that several of you are still in the planning phase. Please feel free to contact Susan Hennessy with questions or go online to register today.

Community Center Construction Update
The Community Center is starting to take shape.  Last week, Haselden Construction successfully completed the first cement pour of the project.  The building has a basement floor!  And, this week, steel posts have been put into place.

The site now includes a Grove 70 ton crane that has a 138 foot boom with a fly jib attached. The crane is used to put the steel posts into place.  The construction continues to be pretty awesome to watch.

Read more and remember you can watch construction on the webcam!

Additionally, we are expecting to begin work on the Turf Field on October 1.  This project will include many trucks and excavation work.  We anticipate, with weather cooperating, that the field will be complete by the end of December.
