Fourth Grade at History Colorado
|
"This was the best thing I've ever done," said an enthusiastic fourth grade boy on being a junior docent at the History Colorado Center where period attire, well-rehearsed presentations and first rate iPad scrapbooks turned SMA students into famous characters from Colorado's past.
Visitors to the History Colorado Center on April 21 met 37 notable Coloradoans such as Clara Brown, Florence Sabin, Bob Sakata, Josephine Roche, Isabella Bird and Jose Dario Gallegos. Stationed around the museum, the students spoke their story and shared an electronic scrapbook with visitors. Many visitors commented on how articulate and confident the fourth graders were.

Alternative Transportation Day for Earth Week
|
The High School Environmental Club sponsored an Alternative Transportation Day today and encouraged students and faculty to carpool, bus, bike or walk to school in order to reduce CO2 emissions for Earth Week. More than 77 people participated so the number of cars driven to school was reduced by 67%, or 48 cars. By just these actions today, (assuming average gas mileage of cars on the road today, and average distance of a sample surveyed on distance driven) SMA was able to save 330kg of CO2 from being released! If each of the participants continued this same pattern of one day per week for one year, we could reduce our CO2 emissions by 17.16 metric tons!
