SMA 2012 SAT Scores Exceptional!

The 2012 SAT scores for St. Mary's Academy exceed the state and national  mean by an average of more than 75 points in in Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing. The scores exceed the national women's mean by almost 100 points. An indicator of excellence, the scores reveal the students are prepared for the tests and are prepared for higher learning.

High School Principal Kathryn McNamee said, "We are dedicated to enhancing our curriculum so that students are acquiring the skills and talents for use in the 21st century.  At the same time we try to help them with a knowledge base so that they will perform well on standardized tests. Each year these girls' scores improve on these tests. When we look at the comparison with our SMA High School students and those across the state, one can truly say these scores are impressive!"

SMA Semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program

Two St. Mary's Academy seniors, Blair Batky and Paige Stock, have been

 Paige Stock & Blair Batky

named Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist standing and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Paige has been attending SMA since 9th grade and is involved in the Ambassador and Yoga Clubs.  She also dances and plays the violin and piano.  Paige hope to attend Colorado School of Mines and major in engineering.

Blair has also attended SMA since 9th grade and is involved in theater, SAIMARAAC and the Ambassador Club.  Blair hope to attend NYU to study music.

Admissions News
  • Calling all SMA families...

    We are looking for Ambassador Families to welcome our new SMA families.

    Ambassador families serve in two main capacities: as welcoming partners and as communicators to a family who is new to the school. The Ambassador Family reaches out to the new family and provides them with support, social opportunities, resources, answers questions when possible and helps to foster connections to the school.

    Top Four Reasons to Become an Ambassador Family:

    1. Meet and develop relationships with new families.
    2. Provide new families with another resource to find information, support and a sense of belonging in our community.
    3. Enjoy social and informational events that will assist the new family in assimilating into SMA.
    4. Contribute to the enhancement of a strong school community.
  • Expectations:

    • One-year commitment
    • Call new families after they have been accepted to SMA.
    • Reach out once new families have officially enrolled.
    • Attend Accept Party Events
    • Buddy with New Family

If you are interested in becoming an Ambassador Family please contact Seely Greenberg in the Admissions Office at sgreenberg@smanet.org. We will be scheduling an Ambassador meeting in November.

GO WILDCATS!!!

Inclement Weather Policy
St. Mary's Academy encourages parents to use their own judgment about the safety of roads on snowy days. Teachers waive late arrivals and tests on severe weather days.

In the event of inclement weather, St. Mary's Academy might call a "Delayed Arrival" for the campus. On a Delayed Arrival day, all classes will begin at 9:05 a.m.

For students who might arrive earlier than the 9:05 a.m. start time, school personnel will be present in the school buildings beginning at 8:00 a.m.           In the Lower School, students should go to the gym.

The decision to announce a Delayed Arrival day will be made according to the following factors:

  • quantity of snow fallen or forecasted;
  • ability of students and staff to travel to school;
  • ability to clear and maintain parking lots and pathways;
  • ability of school function (heating, water, etc.)

As soon as the decision is made to change the schedule, we will put a message on our main phone line: 303.762.8300, and on our website, www.smanet.org.   Usually this decision is made and posted by 6:00 a.m.

Further, we will announce any school closing or schedule change due to weather or other emergency by 6:45 a.m., as best we can, on television stations including: KCNC (TV) Channel 4, KDVR Fox 31 (TV) Channel 31, KMGH (TV) Channel 7, KUSA (TV) Channel 9, KWGN (WB2 TV) Channel 2; and on radio station 850 KOA Storm Center.

When school is in session and we have inclement weather, decisions related to activities/athletics will not be made until after 1:30 pm. Weather changes quickly in Colorado, and we will do our best to make the decisions as efficiently as possible. If school is cancelled due to weather concerns, activities and athletics will be cancelled. Information about cancellation of events or school closing is available by calling the school at 303.762.8300.
