SMA Semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program

Two St. Mary's Academy seniors, Blair Batky and Paige Stock, have been

Blair Batky & Paige Stock

named Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist standing and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

From the approximate 16,000 Semifinalists, about 15,000 are expected to advance to the Finalist level and in February they will be notified of this designation. All National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from this group of finalists.

Get Your Re-Loadable Gift Cards!
This week, all SMA families and employees will receive a re-loadable King Soopers gift card with a $2.50 balance.  If you shop at King Soopers, please re-load your card and and use it when you buy groceries and/or gasoline (Kroeger gas pumps only, including Loaf and Jug).  When you participate, 5% of every dollar you re-load will benefit SMA.  Last year, with just 10% of our families re-loading, we had net proceeds of $20,152.  Imagine what we could do if every SMA King Soopers shopper starts re-loading!  (If you want other gift cards such as Vitamin Cottage, Tony's, Sprouts or Safeway, please check in with our Business Office in Sanders House.)
