SHEF ENRICHMENT ACADEMY

The Somerset Hills Education Foundation is pleased to announce a new initiative - the SHEF Enrichment Academy.  The Academy, launching in July of 2013, will offer a host of courses to be held at Somerset Hills School District facilities.  Reasonably priced, these courses will enhance or enrich students' current academic pursuits and help develop various skills, abilities, talents and interests.  The SHEF Enrichment Academy courses will not provide academic credit. The program guide and online registration are now available through the SHEF website - www.shefnj.org.  Click here for  Course catalog.

Summer Reading Bags and Sign-Up-Come to one of the following sessions to sign up for summer reading activities and decorate a bag for summer reading books. Monday, June 17: 3:00-5:00 pm; Tuesday, June 18: 12:00-2:00 pm; Wed., June 19: 10:00 am-12:00 pm; or Thursday, June 20: 3:00-5:00 pm.  [One bag per child signed up for summer reading while supplies last.]  Free family craft program. THE GOODS ON GLUTEN FREE: SHOULD YOU OR SHOULDN'T YOU?

The Bernards Township Health Department is presenting a program entitled "The Goods on Gluten Free: Should You or Shouldn't You" on Tuesday June 18 starting with snacks at 6:30 pm and the program following at 7 pm in the Bernards Township Town Hall located at One Collyer Lane in Basking Ridge. This program is free and open to the public. The speaker is Lynn Cicero, MS, RD who is a Registered Dietitian in private practice in Morristown, N. J. specializing in gluten sensitivity and celiac disease. She is the host of www.celiacdietitian.com. This program is presented in cooperation with Gluten Free Gloriously Bake Shop in Stirling. Lifeguard Certification or Recertification- With summer around the corner, spring is the perfect time to become certified as a lifeguard. The Y offers certification and recertification trainings in the months of April, May and June.

 

The Prague Trip is a wonderful opportunity for teens, age 15+, to join a SHYMCA delegation on a trip to Prague this summer for the Y International Youth Festival. The event encourages international teens to celebrate life, culture and diversity and to discover their power to make a positive social impact locally and globally.

CAMP COLEY

Camp COLEY is a one week overnight camp open to all girls and boys from grades 3- 12.  Camp is held at Mt. Allamuchy Scout Reservation in Stanhope, NJ. This year, camp is being held August 4 - 10. The camp offers a fully supervised day and night program. Age appropriate activities include swimming, boating, first aid, ecology, hiking, crafts, rock climbing, COPE, sports, games, songs, campfires and a Thursday night dance with a DJ. CHILD HEALTH CONFERENCE

The Bernards Township Health Department conducts a monthly no cost clinic for children who are not covered by health insurance which ensures that children receive appropriate vaccinations in a timely manner.  

The services provided are: Growth and development assessments, Immunizations for newborns through children 18 years of age, Nutrition assessment and counseling, and Information and education on childhood health, safety, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) in the area, Pediatric Dental Program, NJ Snap (Food Stamps), etc. This influenza vaccine is available to those who attend at our Child Health Conference.

PLANNING FOR SHEF'S FUTURE!

The SHEF Trustees are thrilled to announce the establishment of THE SOMERSET HILLS EDUCATION FOUNDATION PETER J. MILLER ENDOWMENT FUND to honor Superintendent Pete Miller who is retiring on June 30, 2013 after serving the district admirably for 35 years.  Establishing an endowment in the name of Pete Miller recognizes his many contributions, his values and his long term commitment to The Somerset Hills School District (SHSD).  By establishing this fund the SHEF Trustees are planning for the foundation's future - honoring its long-term commitment to promote and provide education opportunities by funding innovative programs and projects for the benefit of the students of the SHSD.  SHEF's goal is to raise $35,000 by June 30 in honor of Peter Miller's 35 years of dedication to the district.  With leading gift contributions by SHEF Trustees already pledged, SHEF is looking forward to the support of the Endowment fund by parents, alumnus and community members who share our commitment to the students of the SHSD.  To pledge or to make a contribution, CLICK HERE to download the Endowment Fund Letter of Intent.

Hidden Treasures of Korean Art & Modern Korea--Saturday, June 22 at 11:30 am.
