PLANNING FOR SHEF'S FUTURE!

The SHEF Trustees are thrilled to announce the establishment of THE SOMERSET HILLS EDUCATION FOUNDATION PETER J. MILLER ENDOWMENT FUND to honor Superintendent Pete Miller who is retiring on June 30, 2013 after serving the district admirably for 35 years.  Establishing an endowment in the name of Pete Miller recognizes his many contributions, his values and his long term commitment to The Somerset Hills School District (SHSD).  By establishing this fund the SHEF Trustees are planning for the foundation's future - honoring its long-term commitment to promote and provide education opportunities by funding innovative programs and projects for the benefit of the students of the SHSD.  SHEF's goal is to raise $35,000 by June 30 in honor of Peter Miller's 35 years of dedication to the district.  With leading gift contributions by SHEF Trustees already pledged, SHEF is looking forward to the support of the Endowment fund by parents, alumnus and community members who share our commitment to the students of the SHSD.  To pledge or to make a contribution, CLICK HERE to download the Endowment Fund Letter of Intent.

New     ATTENTION CLASS OF 2014:  SENIOR PORTRAIT INFORMATION
Your child should have received an appointment for a Portrait sitting from Lifetouch.  Please look for that information in the mail.  Once you take your yearbook photo with Lifetouch, the company will send the proofs to your home which will include instructions on how to choose your portrait for submission for the yearbook.  Once you have completed those steps, your job is done. If you choose to use an outside photographer, here are some things to remember:
  • Deadline for submission is NOVEMBER 1, 2013.  Any submissions after this date may not be included in the yearbook.
  • Background color should be a basic color (Blue/gray)
  • If the portrait is a "location shot", please be aware of the items in the background that might look odd in a yearbook layout.
  • A "head and shoulders" shot is preferred.  Full body pictures detract from the uniformity of the yearbook.
  • Dress should be more formal (boys: jacket and tie  girls: nice top/blouse/sweater)
  • Format for submission should be CD or electronic format (email or flashdrive) and can be emailed to [email protected]

ATTENTION EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS

On June 3, 2013, 8th grade students will be attending an orientation program at BHS.  Students will be introduced to members of the high school staff and administration while becoming familiar with various aspects of high school life.  The following topics will be addressed:

*Policies/Attendance

*Athletic Offerings/sign-ups

*Extracurricular offerings/sign-ups

*Peer leadership

*Service Learning/guidance

Students will have an opportunity to take a brief tour of the campus and ask questions of our peer leaders during that time.  It is our hope that this program will assist students with the transition process and help them to begin their high school experience with confidence and enthusiasm. Click here for a flyer.

TAKING AWAY THE KEYS DOESN'T TAKE AWAY THE RISKS

Most people know about the dangers of underage drinking and driving, but what you may not know is that the dangers of underage drinking are even greater off the roadways.  This means that parents who talk with their kids about drunk driving, but not about waiting until 21 to drink at all, are missing an important step in keeping their kids safe.  Click here for more information.
