School News
New! From the Guidance Department:
On June 3, 2013, 8th grade students will be attending an orientation program at BHS. Students will be introduced to members of the high school staff and administration while becoming familiar with various aspects of high school life. The following topics will be addressed:
- Policies/Attendance
- Athletic Offerings/sign ups
- Extracurricular offerings/sign ups
- Peer leadership
- Service Learning/guidance
Students will have an opportunity to take a brief tour of the campus and ask questions of our peer leaders during that time. It is our hope that this program will assist students with the transition process and help them to begin their high school experience with confidence and enthusiasm. Thank you for helping the Peer Leaders keep Jersey Strong!
Thanks to your donations and support of the Jersey Strong wristband sales the BMS Peer Leaders were able to raise $550 for the American Red Cross and St. Hubert's Sandy Relief Funds! Thank you for helping BMS make a difference!
From the Guidance Department
CAP, or Child Assault Prevention, will be holding educational programs in our school for 5th grade students during the week of May 20th. The program aims at informing students about how to identify potentially dangerous situations. The representatives of this program will also be hosting a parent information night on May 20th at 7 pm in the BMS Library. Click here to access more information about this program.

BMS HSA News
New! HSA General Membership Meeting May 21st, 9 am, BMS Library
Please join us on May 21st 9am in the BMS library for our next HSA General Meeting. We will have Rebecca Labus, College and Career Specialist from BHS who will discuss preparing for college as early as the first year of high school.
Attention 8th Grade Parents-- Graduation will be here before you know it! We have created a fabulous 8th Grade DVD filled with school events and childhood memories from kindergarten at Bedwell through 8th grade at BMS. Click here to read the attached flyer to learn more about how you can order the DVD slide show (not to be confused with the DVD made during 8th grade graduation). The last day to order your DVD is June 7th, but don't delay, order your DVD today! You will be able to pick up your copy of the 8th DVD Class of 2013 after graduation on June 19. Box Tops for Education: The last Box Tops collection will take place in your childrens' social studies classrooms on Friday, May 31. Please clip and send in all your remaining Box Tops by this date; otherwise they will gather dust in your house all summer long. More importantly, the class with the highest total in the second half of the year will win an ice cream party in June!

Somerset Hills Education Foundation (SHEF) News
PLANNING FOR SHEF'S FUTURE!
The SHEF Trustees are thrilled to announce the establishment of THE SOMERSET HILLS EDUCATION FOUNDATION PETER J. MILLER ENDOWMENT FUND to honor Superintendent Pete Miller who is retiring on June 30, 2013 after serving the district admirably for 35 years. Establishing an endowment in the name of Pete Miller recognizes his many contributions, his values and his long term commitment to The Somerset Hills School District (SHSD). By establishing this fund the SHEF Trustees are planning for the foundation's future - honoring its long-term commitment to promote and provide education opportunities by funding innovative programs and projects for the benefit of the students of the SHSD. SHEF's goal is to raise $35,000 by June 30 in honor of Peter Miller's 35 years of dedication to the district. With leading gift contributions by SHEF Trustees already pledged, SHEF is looking forward to the support of the Endowment fund by parents, alumnus and community members who share our commitment to the student's of the SHSD. The Somerset Hills Education Foundation is pleased to announce a new initiative called the SHEF Enrichment Academy. Through the Academy, students will be able to take very reasonably priced summer courses that will enhance or enrich their current academic pursuits. Although these courses will not be for academic credit, they would be enriching courses that will help further develop various skills, abilities, talents and interests. Program guides containing a list of available courses as well as registration information will be available in the next few weeks. Questions can be addressed to: shefenrichment@shsd.org
HONOR A STAFF MEMBER TODAY! SHEF has initiated its 5th annual end of year Staff Tribute Program where parents can make a donation to SHEF in the name of a SHSD staff member. Staff Tribute Donation Forms were mailed to all families on April 22nd. Or, click here for the Donation Form. Mail your donations by May 24th.
