Girls Hoops Update
They say a team's character is measured by how it responds to adversity. If that is the case, the Lady Bulldogs sure have a bunch of characters on their team! After suffering its first, and only, loss of the regular season to a powerful Mountain Lakes team last Tuesday, the 'Dogettes re-grouped on Wednesday and put an exclamation point on its impressive season, by defeating an equally talented Morristown squad. Led by the powerful inside game of Elyse Cohan and a stifling defense, the Lady Bulldogs put the full court press on our neighbors to the north to such a degree that a majority of the game was played on only one side of the court!
That makes Ronco's Rottweiler's 13-1 on the season. One blemish on a team of 14 middle school girls is not too shabby!!! The quest continues on Tuesday night, as the girls take on Pope John in the first round of the playoffs.
Boys Hoops Update
Timing is everything, and the BMS Boys Basketball Team have sure got their watches synchronized! In the last two games played, the Bulldogs have demonstrated their ability to play in "extreme" conditions by both taking control of the game early against Boonton, while digging in deep to mount a comeback of epic proportion in a match against Ringwood. In the Boonton game, the 'Dawgs posted their highest point total of the season, registering 75 points before the final buzzer. A balanced scoring attack from the shooting talents of Kyle Savas, Stephen Gribbon, Cole Kirst and Timmy Lallis, and tenacious defense by Mike Gillis and Alex Ward were key to the victory. Throw in 6 combined steals by Mike Parisi and Chris Paciej, and the result is a dominating performance from start to finish.
At the other end of the spectrum, the boys met up with Ringwood in the first round of the playoffs. Following a slow start, the Bulldogs came back from a 10 point deficit in the fourth quarter for the win due to a relentless full court press and clutch shooting. Stephen Gribben and Timmy Lallis caused havoc for the Ringwood back court. Dan Ball and Lallis came through in the clutch with 8 points apiece coming in the fourth quarter, and Cole Kirst also contributed with 2 steals.
