Dear Bedwell Parents,

     In light of the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, I know that our parent community is looking for information regarding how we will handle comments or questions by students when they return to Bedwell on Monday. Our first priority is to keep the structure and routine of our students' school day as normal as possible. A staff meeting was held at the end of the day on Friday to discuss procedures for Monday. If students raise the issue of what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School, staff members were directed to use language such as, "Yes, sad things can happen and that is something you can talk about at home with your mom or dad. Right now we need to do our job as students and work on our reading." Staff members were also asked to be vigilant in the days ahead regarding students who may need the assistance of or time with our school counselors.

     Please know that this weekend I am thinking of all members of our Bedwell School community and of those connected with Sandy Hook Elementary School.
