FINANCIAL AID DISCUSSION

Tuesday, October 30th at 6:30pm in the Community Room

This discussion will include a general overview of the financial aid process.  There will also be an essential financial aid night on December 10th with a guest speaker.  Parents of all grade levels are welcome to attend this discussion.  

 

 

Deadline Tuesday, 10/23     PAID INTERNSHIP AT DILLON PUBLIC LIBRARY 

A paid internship opportunity is available through the Dillon Public Library.  Students should have an interest in Business, Marketing or Sales and experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.  Additional experience with Social Media such as Facebook and Twitter is also desirable.  Students who reside in Bedminster or Far Hills will be given priority.  ***The student should be able to commit to approximately 10-15 hours per week for about 8 weeks, beginning in November/December***  Interested students should see Mrs. Labus in the Guidance Office for an application.  Deadline:  October 23rd

New     KEY CLUB STEP OUT WALK TO STOP DIABETES

The BHS Key Club is participating in the STEP OUT WALK to STOP DIABETES sponsored by the American Diabetes Association.  This event will be held on Saturday, October 27th, 2012 at 2:00pm at Somerset Patriots Stadium.  Please join us for a fun walking day to support a great cause, and take part in the haunted trail, costume contest, pumpkin picking, and pumpkin painting. New     FALL DRAMA:  THE CRUCIBLE - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED 

Volunteers are needed to help with The Crucible on October 26, 27 and 28.  Please contact Michele Pomeranz  at mmpomeranz@verizon.net if you are able to help with any of the following:

*Concessions: Volunteers needed for each show for set up, working during intermission, and clean up

*Ticket Sales: Volunteers needed for each show 45 minutes before curtain time to assist with ticket sales     at the door

*Candygrams: Volunteers needed to purchase and prepare candygrams and to sell them at each show; younger students needed to deliver to the cast and crew during intermission

*Cast Photos: Volunteer needed during each show at intermission



New     FENCING

Fencing is a sport which challenges your mind and body; like a physical game of chess.  

Fencing helps develops mental acuity, quick reflexes, coordination, balance and discipline.

This Wednesday     SPECIAL PARENT PRESENTATION:  RACHEL'S CHALLENGE, OCTOBER 24TH 

All parents are invited to a special presentation of Rachel's Challenge.  Rachel's Challenge focuses on creating a culture of kindness and compassion in schools and communities. Rachel's Challenge is based on the life and writings of Rachel Joy Scott who was the first victim of the Columbine tragedy in 1999.  SHSD students will be introduced to Rachel's Challenge at School Assemblies.  Click here for more information

 

 

BURGER OF CHAMPIONS FUNDRAISER FOR BERNARDS TURF FIELD
Support the Bernards Turf Field by visiting the Claremont Tavern and enjoying a Bernards
"Burger of Champions."  The Bernards "Burger of Champions" is a Cheddar & Bacon Burger with Hickory Barbecued Grilled Onions.  The Claremont Tavern will donate $2 from every burger sold towards the Bernards Turf Field.  Click here for more information.


NHS PEER TUTORING PROGRAM 2012-13
The National Honor Society members offer an in-school tutoring program for any high school students who need extra help in their classes. Students who need extra help will be matched with a NHS member who will meet them once a week during a shared free period. This weekly meeting will continue as long as the student needing help stays in contact with their matched NHS member. If any student is interested in being matched with a tutor, they are to fill out the NHS Tutoring Form and return it to either Ms. Peppe (tpeppe@shsd.org) or Dr. Hogge (jhogge@shsd.org). BHS BOYS BASKETBALL ADULT NIGHT OUT & DAYTIME B-BALLL CHALLENGE

Join in on the fun... Please come out on November 3rd to support the BHS Boys Basketball Program for both an evening with great food, friends and fun and a daytime basketball game when the Varsity team challenges the Peapack/Gladstone Men's BB League. Guidance Department News

ATTENTION SENIORS:  COMMON APP AND NAVIANCE

Please make sure that you create a Common Application account - Mr. Smith sent information to all seniors in early August; if you didn't get that email, please check your Naviance account and provide the correct email address, if applicable. After you create the Common App account, you can then link that account with your Naviance account so that you can request transcripts - there is no more black book! On the Guidance web page, there is a presentation available (TRANSCRIPT REQUEST GUIDE, under the "College/Application Materials" folder)) to walk you through the process of combining your accounts. ATTENTION JUNIORS AND SENIORS:  COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVE VISITS

Please visit your Naviance account to view the list of schools visiting BHS over the first few weeks of the school year. If you are interested in attending a meeting with a college representative, then you must register through your Naviance account at least a day in advance. You also must inform your teacher in advance that you will be missing class, and you are responsible for all work.

Attention Parents!  Have you heard of Google Docs but don't know what it is or how it works?  Now is your chance!  SHEF is sponsoring a FREE hands-on computer seminar in the BHS Library Computer lab on Thursday, October 25 at 10:00 am.  Come learn about Google Docs, managing your volunteer lists online, sharing data with other volunteers and managing your group calendar.
