YMCA International Festival

The 17th annual International Festival at the Somerset Hills YMCA will take place on Sunday October 14th from 1-4pm. This festive event celebrates the diverse cultures of our community and of the world. The festival will feature music, art, dancing, and cuisine from many different countries. FLU SHOTS -- BERNARDS TOWNSHIP HEALTH DEPARTMENT

$20 for residents and $30 for non-residents and they are also available for no charge for those with a valid Medicare Part B card. Participants should consult with their doctor before receiving the flu vaccine. Clinical services are provided by the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills. For additional information, call (908) 204-2520.

 

Since New Jersey law requires that children up to 59 months of age attending any licensed child-care center or pre-school facility, must receive at least one dose of influenza vaccine between September 1st and December 31st of each year they have included shots for children who are age 4 and older to assist parents in obtaining this vaccination for their pre-school child.    See flyer for all details.

MICHELANGELO'S FRESCOES

Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel frescoes were brilliantly restored between 1980-1999. In a richly illustrated talk, on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Richard Somerset-Ward will show the frescoes, before and after restoration, and explains some of the methods and techniques Michelangelo used to paint them. VACCINES FOR CHILDREN PROGRAM
For all children birth to 18 years who are not covered by health insurance to receive appropriate vaccinations in a timely manner at no cost. The goal is to eliminate vaccine-preventable disease in children. This federally funded, state operated vaccine supply program provides pediatric vaccines at no cost to doctors and health care providers who serve children who might not otherwise be vaccinated due to the inability to pay.

NEW - BERNARDSVILLE LIBRARY PROGRAMS  

Free Concert: Sundays at Three--Sunday, October 14 at 3:00 pm. Listen to the newly formed jazz quartet "Brynn, Grover & Jazz Jump."  Their sound specializes in arrangements of The Great American Songbook interspersing clever medleys with elements of swing and Jump/Blues from the 1940's. Funded by the Friends of the Bernardsville Library. Doors open at 2:45 pm. Free. No sign-up is needed to attend.

 

An Evening with Bill Moyers--Friday, October 26 at 7:00 pm.  A benefit for the Friends of the Bernardsville Library at Dolce Basking Ridge.  Mr. Moyers, host of Moyers and Company, will speak about the influence of the media on democracy.  Tickets are $100/person and are available at the library until October 21. Additionally, the Friends are offering a student rate of $50 to local high school students.

All parents are invited to a special presentation of Rachel's Challenge.  Rachel's Challenge focuses on creating a culture of kindness and compassion in schools and communities. The 9 year old son of a 1989 BHS graduate has been diagnosed withT Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, T-ALL. He has been going through months of treatment which needs to continue for the next 3 years. Heartworks pie sale donates 100% of all monies raised from this sale to go directly towards his treatment costs. See flyer and order form attached.

Heartworks is a 501(c3) Acts of Kindness group that was created in response to the tremendous kindness that sustained so many families in the months and years following September 11, 2001.
