Thank You Patrick!

After three and a half years at LAAC, Patrick will be leaving to begin graduate school in Southern California.

Throughout his time at LAAC, Patrick has coordinated hundreds of training sessions. Many of you will recognize Patrick as the voice of LAAC webinars, and he has worked to expand training offerings for legal aid attorneys, advocates, and court staff throughout California.

LAAC will miss him, but we plan to visit him when we're down for Pathways to Justice this summer.

Beginning March 1, if you have any questions regarding LAAC trainings, you can email [email protected], and a LAAC staff member will follow up with you.

Have Summer Clerks? Check out the Dan Bradley Fellowship!

Each year, LAAC offers the Dan Bradley Fellowship to fund law students who want to spend their summer working at a rural legal aid organization or a rural project. The Dan Bradley Fellowship not only gives law students the opportunity to explore a career in legal services, it offers legal services programs a new source of dedicated and energetic summer staff.

For more information on the fellowship, click here.

How students and programs can apply:
  • Download the Dan Bradley Fellowship Application HERE
  • Submit a completed application by Monday, March 30 to Lorin Kline at [email protected].
Council on Access and Fairness seeking applications for membership

The Council on Access and Fairness advises the Board of Trustees on advancing State Bar diversity strategies and goals. The diversity pipeline includes the early education pipeline (K to 12); college, law school and bar exam prep; recruitment, hiring, retention, and promotion in the profession; and judicial diversity.

LAAC encourages our members to apply to COAF to help shape the State Bar's strategies on increasing diversity in the profession.

Nominate someone for an Award of Merit

The LAAC Awards of Merit are the legal services community's opportunity to recognize the importance of legal services and to particularly honor a few of the many who have made contributions to the field during the last year. Nominations are due by April 17, 2015.

This year we will present our Awards of Merit on June 10, 2015 at the Pathways to Justice Conference in Los Angeles.

We will present up to 5 awards, one in each of the following categories:
  • Legal Services Attorney
  • Non-Attorney Staff (Paralegal, Community Worker, Support Staff)
  • Individual Volunteer or Board Member for a legal services program
  • Client of a legal services program that has engaged in advocacy or assistance to the program
  • Staff of a trial or appellate court (Joint award with the California Commission on Access to Justice)
