After months of hard work and thoughtful, creative planning by many, CoLA officially has a brand-new WEBSITE! It is visually pleasing (with all the jewel-toned colors we selected!) and has many wonderful features such as Scholarship Opportunities for our students, News and Events, and the fantastic Student Videos that highlight our very talented and diverse students who are great advocates for the value of a liberal arts education. Many thanks to Linda Caron for spear-heading this effort and to Chris Suttle for providing wonderful photos for the website and for all his attention to input, data clean-up, and Drupal training for users in each department. Thanks especially to Communications & Marketing staff Mark Anderson, Jessi Sparks, Cassie McKinney, and Chase Cathcart, and to all the CoLA department chairs and directors who spent their summer and early fall writing content and planning for this fantastic moment!
This coming Wednesday I will stretch my memory to provide a warm welcome - in Spanish -- to 232 high school students who will come to Wright State to participate in Spanish Immersion Day. Congratulations to our junior and senior Spanish students and to Michelle Cipriano and Dorothy Alvarez for organizing a fantastic day of language activities that promote the benefits of learning a foreign language and introduce many soon-to-be high school graduates to Wright State's campus for the first time - a great recruitment event. Buenos días!
Sunday I have the pleasure of attending the College of Liberal Arts' Donor Recognition Ceremony in Schuster Center where we will recognize many generous donors to the college and outstanding students who are benefiting from their support. Afterwards I look forward to enjoying my first Holidays in the Heartland concert showcasing over 300 fantastic students and faculty in the Department of Music.
A BIG thank-you to Chair Randy Paul for his excellent leadership of our talented and multi-faceted music group! Kudos to Hank Dahlman, conductor of the Collegiate Chorale, who is in charge of organizing the whole evening; Victoria Chadbourne, who has worked tirelessly on ticket sales, promotions, visual aids, and much more; all conductors of the various musical groups: Jackson Leung, Chamber Orchestra; Brody McDonald, ETHOS; Ginger Minneman, Women's Chorale; James Tipps, Men's Chorale, University Chorus, and Cappella; Robert Stockton III, Paul Lawrence Dunbar Chorale; Amanda Hughes, Chamber Singers; Daniel Zehringer, Trumpet Ensemble; Gerald Noble, Percussion Ensemble; and Amanda Roberts and Steven Aldredge, accompanists. Many people tell me that the holidays officially begin with this concert, and I can't wait!
I sent out my first tweet this past week and am getting into it! Check out the action @KristinSobolik and @WSUCola.
