Learn More about Our Featured Speaker: Alden Bianchi!

"The one-year delay in the "pay-or-play" rules and related notice requirements announced by the Obama administration in early July has provided some employers with an excuse to stop worrying about compliance for a while. This is a mistake in our view. Savvy employers will use the extra time to better understand the law, consider their options and plan and coordinate their compliance efforts" says Affordable Care Act expert Alden Bianchi.

In just a few weeks Mary Kraft Staffing and HR Solutions, Niles, Barton and Wilmer, and TEKCare will be hosting a seminar to educate and inform our clients and local businesses in the area on the upcoming changes in the implementation of the Affordable Healthcare Act. We are so excited to have the opportunity to introduce our clients and the local business market to some of the people who helped shape and have lived through these new laws firsthand.

Our featured speaker at this highly anticipated event will be practice group leader of Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Practice at Mintz Levin, Alden Bianchi. Mr. Bianchi played a pivotal role in the formation and representation of the 2006 Massachusetts Health Care Reform Act. In 2006, Mr. Bianchi represented the Romney administration and testified in front of the Senate Finance Committee on behalf of the Massachusetts Health Care Reform Act.

Mr. Bianchi has authored and co-authored several articles regarding employee benefits and the Affordable Healthcare Act. In his article, Staffing Industry Compliance with the Employer Shared Responsibility (aka "Pay-or-Play") Provisions of the Affordable Care Act: Five Questions, he discusses five important points of the Employer Shared Responsibility portion of the Affordable Care Act. Mr. Bianchi advises corporate, not-for-profit, governmental, and individual clients on a broad range of executive compensation and employee benefits issues, and his expertise on the Affordable Care Act makes him the perfect partner for businesses to ensure their compliance with these new laws.

Mr. Bianchi is a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, received his JD from Suffolk University, and is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, Illinois, and Massachusetts.

Learn More about Our Speaker: Richard Purtell!

Richard Purtell, CEO and President of American Resource Staffing (ARS) in Massachusetts has lived through - and survived - the Affordable Health Care changes since 2006! Richard started American Resource Staffing in 1985 and has since opened several other branches to cater to his client's needs. Now the family of companies consists of American Resource Staffing, Premier Medical and Premier Technical. With over 27 years in the business and after facing the legislation changes during the Massachusetts Health Care Reform Act of 2006, Richard has managed to keep ARS as one of the largest independent staffing firms in Southern New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Having gone through the changes of the Massachusetts Affordable Healthcare Act of 2006 as a business owner, Richard has the insider knowledge that most other business owners need to know going into these changes. "I see the value of being in compliance," said Purtell. "The more you are in tune with regulations, the more consultative you get, and the further you are from firms that compete just on price," he said.

One of the most important things to remember is that the one-year delay on the employer mandate is not a reason to breathe a sigh of relief just yet. The deadline for employers to inform their current and new employees of their healthcare options is still October 1, 2013 and the individual mandate has not changed either. All individuals will have to purchase health insurance on or before January 1, 2014, regardless of their employer's health insurance options.

"The un-savvy ones are going to think that school is out for a year," said Richard in an interview with StaffingIndustry.com. "People think a miracle is going to happen; it's not going to go away. It's a law; it's too far down the road."

If you think your business could benefit from hearing someone who knows what it was like to comply with these changes, come see Richard speak at our Affordable Healthcare Seminar on Monday, September 30th at the Crowne Plaza in Lutherville, MD! Richard will be speaking on the topic and his experiences along with Stephanie Richfield, OSHA expert, and our featured speaker, Affordable Healthcare Act expert Alden Bianchi.
