Some agencies integrated their pandemic successes into their ongoing seasonal

flu efforts.

MASS VACCINE CLINICS

ILLINOIS
The University of Chicago borrowed concepts from Malcolm Gladwell's bestseller, The Tipping Point, to redesign how vaccine was distributed and boost uptake, first for seasonal and later pandemic influenza..

HAWAII  
By 2009, 91% of the state's public and private schools participated in Hawaii's voluntary school-based seasonal flu vaccine clinics program, thus setting the stage for a strong H1N1 response. View details. 

MINNESOTA
Rural Polk County built on its successful seasonal flu exercises to open mass dispensing sites on the same day it received its first shipment of H1N1 vaccine. View details.
  
OHIO
The University of Toledo used its 
previous vaccination campaign experience to offer student training and run a drive-thru POD during the H1N1 pandemic. View details
 
SURVEILLANCE  


NEW HAMPSHIRE
 
Surveillance work by school nurses during the H1N1 pandemic was integrated into the state's seasonal flu response. View details.
 

TEXAS
Tarrant County developed a toolkit and guidance for sharing ILI-related absentee information between schools and local health departments. View details.

NORTH CAROLINA 
A hospital-based public health epidemiologist program aided the state's H1N1 response and is credited with improving public health infrastructure and shortening emergency response time. View details.

San Francisco adapted its infectious disease emergency response guidance and templates for local agencies to integrate Incident Command System roles and promote  collaboration between disease control and emergency management divisions.
