4th Anxiety
Most of us love a good holiday celebration and fast approaching is an important one in American history, Independence Day! Unfortunately, the fourth of July brings lots of anxiety to our four-legged companions. With a little preparation, there are some very simple ways to help assure their safety and comfort during the festivities.
- If you can, avoid large crowds but if you do plan on traveling with your pet, please don't leave them unattended in a car, for any length of time.
- Keep your pet somewhere inside, enclosed, safe from the noise. You can help create a safe haven by having something familiar and soothing in the background, such as music or the TV (maybe an episode of Lassie?).
- Keep fireworks in a safe place, out of reach to avoid accidental ingestion.
- Avoid feeding your pets anything out of the ordinary from their normal diet. Remember, some foods can be toxic to our pets, and though you may be tempted to share a bite, the anxiety from the noise and new eats will likely prove to be a bad combo.
Something that may not be on the forefront of your mind is the possibility of your pet running away. Did you know that more pets run away during the days leading up to and on the 4th of July than any other time during the year? This is when a pet license comes in handy! Not only is it required by law, but it helps aid in the proper identification and safe return of your pet. A microchip also helps in much of the same way. For more information on both, go to our website. In the unfortunate event that your pet goes missing, contact our shelter right away.

Meeker Magic
Once again, the Metro Animal Services booth was a success at the Meeker Days Festival. With just under 1400 visitors, we were successful in promoting information about the shelter and raised over $500 in donations! We sincerely thank all of our hardworking volunteers and those who stopped by the booth to show your support. The festival is always a great opportunity for Metro to connect with the communities we serve and raise awareness for the services we provide, as well as highlight our local partnerships with FAYMAS and Volkswagen of Puyallup. We couldn't have done it without you, so thank you!

The Future Is SO Bright!
Look at this forecast!!! As we continue to experience warmer temperatures, we all need to be mindful of our pets and their heat safety. It may sound appealing to take your furry friend for a drive in the sunshine. But, keep in mind that any length of time for an animal in a hot car can pose a threat to their health, potentially causing dehydration or even heat stroke.
