Tips for a Yankee (Labra)Doodle
Did you know that more pets go missing around the 4th of July than any other time during the year? Area shelters are inundated with lost animals as a result of the festivities. Aside from the overall danger, the noise from fireworks can be harmful, causing undue stress and anxiety to pets.
As you make plans for your Independence Day celebration, consider a few simple safety tips for your four legged family members:
- If you plan on traveling with your pooch for the holiday, remember to never leave them unattended in a vehicle.
- Try to avoid large crowds; keep your pet somewhere inside, enclosed, safe from the noise. Try to have something familiar and soothing in the background, such as music or the TV.
- Keep fireworks in a safe place, out of reach, to avoid accidental ingestion.
- In extreme cases, you may consider taking Fido to the vet for a prescribed sedative.
- Make sure your pet has an identification tag with updated contact information and or consider getting them micro-chipped.
