You have been asking! Here's your chance! Help us uncover one of Milwaukee's greatest treasures.

Help us reach our goal to fabricate and install Soldiers Home signage on I-94 and the Hank Aaron State Trail!

The Milwaukee Soldiers Home** is not the easiest to find even though it is a nationally significant property right next to Miller Park. Even if you can find it, there is little information about its history and significance available to the public. Partner with us and donate to Milwaukee Preservation Alliance's (MPA) campaign to engage Milwaukee residents and visitors with this local and national treasure.

MPA is launching a Milwaukee Soldiers Home Wayfinding Campaign to fund signage that will identify the Soldiers Home, located on the campus of the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, and describe the importance of the historic district. The signage will be located on the I-94 Expressway and along the Hank Aaron State Trail which runs through the Soldiers Home District. It will be a simple, low-cost way to inform the thousands of people who travel past the District every day, but have never known to

stop and learn more.

The Wayfinding Campaign kicked off with the recently completed downloadable self-guided audio walking tour. This was fully funded through the generous support of the David and Julia Uihlein Foundation. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has also given a $5,000 matching grant to the Milwaukee Preservation Alliance for the project. Additional funding is still needed; double your support by donating before the end of the year!

This is a good start and a critical step in our ongoing mission to save this incredible cultural site but we need your financial support today if we are going to be successful.

**Due to a lack of awareness of the Soldiers Home, along with the VA's lack of funding for maintenance and repair, the Milwaukee Soldiers Home National Historic Landmark District is in diminishing condition.

Currently, four of the most remarkable historic buildings are vacant and in disrepair. Milwaukee Preservation Alliance is a local partner in the coalition of stakeholders working with the Milwaukee VA Medical Center to find a solution that will rehabilitate and conserve these buildings for future use in service to veterans.

Though we have made great strides, we still need to elevate the profile of the Milwaukee Soldiers Home. Local residents and visitors to Milwaukee MUST recognize its value and importance from a historical perspective and its future impact on veterans' care. The Milwaukee Soldiers Home is a significant place for Milwaukeeans and visitors to experience.
