Fall 2012
Good Citizenship
Steven Clarke
LVGH has offered  Citizenship classes for many years now, helping our students to become U.S. citizens (you may remember our story about new citizen Steven,  photo at right).

But in this important election year, we decided to take this work one step further.  Throughout this fall, our tutors, computer lab volunteers, and staff have been helping students register to vote, find their polling places and learn about the voting process in general.    We're happy to do our part to promote good citizenship.  Don't forget to vote on Tuesday!
Eat. Drink. Dance.

Save the Date!  Our 4th annual Eat. Drink. Dance. Read. Learn. Grow. Fundraising Gala will be held April 6, 2013 at The Farmington Club.

This year's event is special because we'll be celebrating our 40th anniversary.  Watch out for an invitation in the mail, coming soon!

We are currently seeking corporate sponsors and auction item donors for our Gala.  Please see here for details, and contact Shannon Houston at 860-233-3853 or [email protected] if you or your company is interested in learning more.
Leaders in Our Community
For the last few years, our Executive Director, CJ Hauss, has served on the Leadership Team of the Capital Region Adult Literacy Partnership. This initiative aims to create a coordinated, accountable system that links and streamlines the existing adult education, community college and workforce investment systems in the Greater Hartford region.

"LVGH is proud to be part of an initiative that engages so many organizations from the adult education community," says CJ, who is currently serving as Chair of the project.  "It's important for us to utilize what we've learned from our own students to have a broader impact on the lives of adults and families across the region."

The Partnership is supported by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
