Professor Tim Canova: "The Bottom-Up Recovery: A New Deal in Banking and Public Finance"
Professor Tim Canova posted a chapter from his book, "When Government Helped: Learning from the Successes and Failures of the New Deal" on Social Science Research Network (SSRN). The chapter, "The Bottom-Up Recovery: A New Deal in Banking and Public Finance" compares FDR's response to the Great Depression with the responses of George W. Bush and Barack Obama to the Great Recession of 2008-2009. Canova argues that FDR's "bottom-up" approach trumps that of Bush and Obama's because the FDR plan helped ordinary citizens recover, while the Bush and Obama plan favored a "trickle-down" approach that aided big business more than ordinary citizens.

Professor Elena Marty-Nelson: "Law, Religion, and Health in America"
Professor Elena Marty-Nelson collaborated with two other South Florida professors on a paper proposal accepted for Harvard's Petrie-Flom's Center conference at Harvard University Law School. Entitled, "Law, Religion, and Health in America," her paper examines the need to establish international protocols and laws when handling human remains, especially in light of the Ebola virus outbreak. The Ebola health crisis was exacerbated partly because of improper handling of deceased victims of the deadly disease. Marty-Nelson proposes that a solution may be found through an interdisciplinary approach that combines legal, medical, moral, humanitarian, and religious elements.
