The Omega 3 Index is a blood test that measures the percentage of EPA and DHA in red blood cell membranes. It is the best marker for risk to sudden cardiac death. If your value is below 8% you need more fish oil. I have known about this test for years but it is only recently that it became available in New York. What's more, insurance companies pay for it.

Why Haven't You Heard of this Wonder Drug?

How can one drug do all this?
Although my expertise and focus is on nutrition, I believe everyone should probably be on this drug.
 | What is it?
|
Let's play a little game. See if you can guess the name of this drug. I am going to describe only a partial list of the things this drug does. This drug when taken in appropriate doses has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect. Since inflammation is involved with a large variety of symptoms of chronic unwellness and all degenerative disease, this is extremely important. Not surprisingly, this drug has been found to extend lifespan. What is it? Is it a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). No. NSAIDs actually kill about 16,500 people a year. No, it is not an NSAID. This drug also increases levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor or BDNF for short. BDNF encourages the growth and function of nerve cells in the brain and elsewhere. BDNF seems to be important for memory and a positive mood. Could this new drug be one of the commonly prescribed antidepressants? No. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) used for depression have actually been shown to have the opposite effect: increased death of nerve cells. Our wonder drug is not an SSRI.
Another documented effect of our wonder drug is increased levels of nitric oxide inside blood vessels, leading to arterial relaxation, reduced blood pressure, improved blood flow, and healthier arteries. Our wonder drug improves erectile dysfunction ...but it is not Viagra or Cilalis.
Our wonder drug helps to shed body fat. Is it an appetite suppressant? Perhaps. It also increases the number of calories burned. Is it Phentermine or Orlistat? No.
This drug improves every one of the top 10 biomarkers of aging, including blood sugar. Is it Metformin? No. Our drug improves bone density. Is it Fosamax? No. Our amazing drug is highly effective in improving the number 1 biomarker of aging: loss of muscle mass. Is this drug growth hormone? No. Is it testosterone? No. Is it an anabolic steroid? No.
Our wonder drug can help to improve the efficacy of most other medical treatments. This amazing drug is remarkably free of side effects. I could go on and on about the variety of things this drug accomplishes.
You have not heard of this drug. Why not? Because it is not a drug. If it were a drug, everyone would know about it. What is it?
Exercise.
Exercise has all these amazing effects and more.
Whatever else you do for your health, you cannot leave out the exercise part of the equation. I believe in addressing diet, exercise, rest, and stress reduction in helping people improve their health. This is best done in a personalized fashion.
