BSAC Marches in D.C. to stop the Keystone XL Pipeline
______________________________________________________________
BSAC and YOB believe that organizing around the environment is an important part of education organizing, because as we see it:
"IF THERE'S NO PLANET, THERE'S NO EDUCATION SYSTEM."
On April 26, 2014 over 50 Boston youth organizers traveled to Washington D.C. to march with the Cowboy Indian Alliance to rally against constructing the Keystone XL Pipeline. Students from BSAC, BYOP, and REEP joined thousands of other concerned individuals of all ages and backgrounds who are working together to save our environment.
If built, the Keystone Pipeline would run from Alberta Canada to refineries in Texas carrying toxic tar sands (a fossil fuel that emits more carbon than traditional crude oil).
Students met with Cyril L. Scott, the President of the Rosebud Sioux people, who spoke to us about the danger the pipeline poses to his community of 40,000 people as well as to future generations.
We also met up with 350 Massachusetts- an environmental organization that is a part of 350.org, which opposes the pipeline's potential serious contributions to climate change. By marching. we were urging President Obama to instead invest in renewable energy.
BSAC and its allies want to continue to fight climate change and urge institutions to divest from fossil fuel companies because the future of all young people (and of our coastal city) depends on combating this crisis directly.
