We spoke to over 400 people about harsh discipline
practices during our annual
LISTENING PROJECT!!
________________________________________________
Dear Greetings!
Recently the Boston Student Advisory Council partnered with Dignity in Schools Campaign (DSC) to do its annual Listening Project at three train stations around the City of Boston. Our Listening Project is part of a national Week of Action organized by DSC.
Students from BSAC, Boston Youth Organizing Project (BYOP), and Youth Organizers United for the Now Generation (YOUNG) listened to over 400 people about their thoughts and concerns about discipline practices in the Boston Public Schools.
BSAC has been working with the BPS administration to develop school discipline policies that utilize restorative justice practices and has participated in the district's Code of Conduct Advisory Council.
BSAC presented at a public comment at the Boston School Committee with their findings to ensure that students voices and experiences are heard at the district level.
Each year over 3 million students across the country are suspended out of school. BSAC, as a member of the Dignity in Schools Campaign, helps to raise awareness and change disciplinary practices locally as well as nationally. Please click for more information about the Dignity in Schools Campaign.
