Senior Holistic Living
Greetings!

Over the last several weeks, I have been hosting a variety of Preview events for the upcoming Tampa Bay's Premier Caregiver Event known as The New Age of Caregiving Symposium 2012. They have been wildly successful because of the abundant collaboration that takes place amongst our professional colleagues.

We are a very supportive and deeply interested group of healthcare professionals who share a common message:

We care about the person needing care and now we see why it's important for us to care for the Caregiver as well. Sometimes, that person can be ourselves. Professionally, we care for our clients, our residents or wards. Personally, we care for our family members, our friends, or our associates. Visually, we create a big circle of care. And instead of depleting us, it excites us.

I am so proud to be a part of this caregiver-conscious-community. We are frequently thinking of ways to improve the lives of our loved ones or clients. This month we are highlighting Gary Le Blanc, author, columnist, advocate and all-around good guy who has invented a simple, yet effective way for people to be identified in a hospital setting who may have Alzheimer's or a different type of Dementia. Gary has masterminded the Alzheimer's/Dementia Hospitalization Wristband which has the potential to make every healthcare professional aware of any condition resulting in memory loss. This is critical because patients with memory loss can't recall their medical information which confuses the medical situation even more. Please read Gary's article and contact him directly for more information.

Have a lovely September.

How is your year going? I'd love to hear from you.  Please feel free to share what you need, so that I can continue to evolve and create resources that support you as a caregiver. You can call me at 727-798-2663 or email me at kim@thecaregiverhour.com

Alzheimer's/Dementia Hospitalization Wristband
My goal is to assure that all patients with Alzheimer's or other dementia related diseases, will experience as calm and non-perplexed a stay as is possible during any time spent in a hospital. With this thought in mind, we have designed a memory loss wristband that will be assigned to the patient upon admit. Similar to a name band, this band is white with purple lettering, stating: "Alert Advocate."

You cannot physically look at someone and tell they have cognitive disabilities. From my own personal experiences, while caring for my dad who passed away from Alzheimer's, every hospital visit my father endured was a complete nightmare.[Click here to read the full blog...]
