Health Plan Identifier Requirement
One of the requirements of the most recent amendment to HIPAA is that most plans obtain a Health Plan Identifier (HPID).
The document below goes into more detail, but highlights include:
- Plans with over $5,000,000 in gross receipts (in benefits for self-funded plans and premium for fully insured plans) must obtain an HPID by November 5, 2014.
- Plans with less than $5,000,000 in gross receipts must obtain an HPID by November 5, 2015
- Generally Carriers will obtain HPID for their fully insured plans
- Employers with fully insured Medical plans, but with self-funded HRSs, FSA or Dental and Vision plans may have to file for HPIDs for those plans
