"Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour."
- John 12:27
One of the reasons why purpose is contained within the anointing is because there are forces constantly at work trying to thwart where God wants to take us. When Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan, the first thing God did was to lead him on a fast in the wilderness. There came a faceoff with the devil the moment it became clear that God's hand was on him for purpose. And it became necessary for Christ to separate himself because Hell was coming after that purpose with a fury! Thank God Christ remained focused on doing what he was called to do; otherwise, he may very well have faltered in the test.
If we are ever going to pass through all the pressure that seeks to stem whatever it is God has destined for our lives, it is going to require first of all a resolution of heart to identify where God wants to take us. The scripture says, "And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee..." (Luke 4:14). Christ knew what he had within him and he knew where it was that God wanted to take him.
There are two very important truths to note in how Christ overcame this great challenge. One is the fact that he was geared up for it. He had so meditated upon the Word that when the enemy sought to tempt him he returned fire with fire. He stood up to all that Hell threw at him because he understood what he carried within himself. Secondly, when he arrived in his own home town and entered into the synagogue on the Sabbath and he found were it was written, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he had anointed me..." (Luke 4:18). In other words, Christ was so familiar with what he came to do that even in the moment of such an assault against his calling he draw his strength from the anointing that came upon him in an effort to overthrow the enemy.
You may not have as violent a confrontation as Christ did, but I can promise you if you are serious about fulfilling your purpose in life, then there will come a fight that is intended to stop you from finishing your course. You may have thoughts juggling around inside as to what God wants you to do. You may even have ideas that he has spoken to your heart, all of which are part of the vision and plan for your life. But make no mistake about it, whatever it is you seek to accomplish as your mission you better know deep down on the inside that it is the anointing that is going to get you where he wants to take you.
The Lord spoke to my heart many years ago and said, "Always remember the unction is greater than the warfare." Sometimes it looks like everything is against you. It can seem as if nothing is happening and every effort you make is getting you nowhere. But let me assure you, there are things getting accomplished in you and through you that you may not readily see. In fact, I'll go as far as to say, things are getting done and the work is taking place even though the battle is raging all around you. As long as you are determined to stay the course you can rest assured there is far more working on your behalf than your natural eyes can see.
There is a breakthrough coming! I can promise you that! The very situation you are facing doesn't have a choice but to yield to the greater purpose. As long as you hold fast to what you know inside and don't let the enemy rob you of it, it is just a matter of time before that anointing will destroy whatever yoke there is that appears to have you harnessed.
Paul told Timothy, "Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began" (2 Tim. 1:9). Don't think for one moment that if God called you and downloaded his divine purpose for your life in Christ, that somehow that purpose is going to go unfulfilled. If he was able to make good on his part in bringing to pass our redemption, then surely he is able to make good on all that he has called us to do for him. Here is a great truth for you to embrace today. Let it sink down inside your heart and decide to take your refuge in it: "Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it!" (1 Thess. 5:24). *
