"These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth and no man openeth."
- Revelation 3:7
Every day we pass through doors of some kind, whether they are common doors or unexpected doors. Our home or business doors would certainly qualify as common. But what might be considered unexpected are doors that lead to changing conditions for good and sometimes not so good. It might be a new door of opportunity, something we have wished for a long time to come. Or, it might be a door to a hospital or prison that is totally unforeseen and certainly unwanted.
Doors are openings or passageways that take us out of one place and bring us into another. Some doors are more significant than others. Some can be exciting and adventurous while other doors can be disheartening or disappointing. No one likes going through doors that present hardship or lost. Unfortunately, life sometimes poses these unexpected doors that we don't welcome or care to have to go through.
The same thing is true concerning what God has purposed for our lives. We might be facing doors of opportunity, doors of advancement, but occasionally we experience doors that require a much deeper side of trust where we are faced with the uncertainty of the outcome.
Not every situation we face in life is picture perfect. Not everything we face on the road to destiny is either. We have to be prepared for whatever comes and never let our desire to reach our determined end become clouded by unforeseen conditions of change that tries to weaken our faith.
No one ever starts out where they are ultimately meant to be and it is certain that none of us will arrive at our destined end by mere chance or through some lucky break. There are too many unforeseen factors involved for destiny to just come on its own. We must give hope its supporting cast of faith and patience.
God wants us to live in the expectancy of doors opening up to us that are designed to help us fulfill our purpose until we reach our determined end. Paul talked about having finished his course (2 Tim. 4:7). When Jesus hung on the cross, he said, "It is finished!" (John 19:30). There is even a scripture that tells us that John the Baptist finished his course, although his life was taken sooner than expected (Acts 13:25).
I think if we are truly honest with ourselves we know deep down on the inside that life carries purpose and that there is even a higher purpose than just what we do from a natural point of view. We carry within us potential to be much more than we have become. If we are ever going to reach that purpose we have to understand the process to getting there. It won't fall on us like ripe cherries off a tree. We have to make up our mind that God does have a very special proposal that we need to accept and pursue. If we trust him, he will open the doors to take us where we need to go and he will certainly close the doors that serve only to hinder our progress. God gives us the choice as well as the means, but it ultimately rests in our determination to run our course without being weakened in our resolve...we can do this, if we can believe it can be done!*
