"For I am controlled by the love of Christ; convinced that as One has died for all, then all have died; and that he died for all in order to have the living live no longer for themselves but for him who died and rose again." - 2 Corinthians 5:14 (Moffatt's Translation)
To walk in love is to walk in the highest realm you can attain to as a spiritual person. And when you learn to walk in a revelation of that love it will lift you out of the realm of the ordinary and put you over into the realm of the extraordinary. See, when it comes to the things of God there is a high life and there is a low life. A high life is when you allow love to master you. It's when you are no longer controlled by selfish motives and selfish ambitions. It's called a high life because you choose to take the high way, that higher path, which is totally unselfish and uninterested in just what pleases the flesh.
It's easy to walk in the flesh. All you have to do is do nothing and your life will automatically gravitate to a lower lifestyle. What it means to live a low life is really when you decide to do nothing concerning the commandment of love. It is when you live a life incapacitated to the ways of love, because you have settled to live by your senses rather than out of your heart. The more tied you are to your natural life the less likely you are going to be interested in spiritual things. In fact, if everything you do is determined by how it makes you feel it will cause you to remain grounded by your earthly frailties and out of touch with spiritual realities.
When Paul wrote his letter to the church of Corinth, he told them: "I could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it; neither yet now are ye able" (1 Cor. 3:1, 2). Paul had a great interest in sharing with them the deeper side of life, but they were incapable of carrying the weight of spiritual things. It is very much like our educational system. You don't begin learning at higher levels. You start with the basics and grow into more complex things. For instance, how capable would a third grader be just beginning to understand algebraic symbols and expressions if asked to solve an equation in calculus or trigonometry? It would be beyond their reach. A professor of higher levels in math could try his best to explain the procedure to a third grader, but it would still be way over their head.
Everything heaven desires to do on earth originates and is carried out through love. It's
as if love becomes the porter that opens the
way to spiritual.
That's exactly the case here with Paul trying to get truths over to the church of Corinth. For him to talk about spiritual realities to a people governed by earthly trivialities would be like talking another language they could not understand or comprehend.
Having spiritual awareness to things that are on the heart of God is a sacred treasure that does not come or is acquired automatically. You have to make up your mind to learn the language of the Holy Spirit, which is love. As you come to learn his language then he can take you to higher levels of spiritual realities. When love begins to master you, you will see things, you will hear things, and you will find yourself in touch with things that are beyond your natural senses. Someone once said, "So much of the things of the Spirit are more caught than they are taught." That's absolutely the truth!
So much of what God has for us is beyond us! When Jesus said, "I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly" (John 10:10), he was letting us know there are places to come up to in God that are so far reaching that the natural mind is incapable of being able to comprehend it. In other words, it is simply out of reach for the carnal mind. But when we learn to live a life of love then suddenly things begin to happen on the inside that makes what seems impossible, possible...it makes things that seem unattainable, attainable!
Always remember this: Everything heaven desires to do on earth originates and is carried out through love. It's as if love becomes the porter that opens the way to spiritual. The moment you make love your aim that is when you begin to feel the vacuum within filling up with God's presence. It is where your life begins to understand the true purpose of God!*
