Being the church, we are called upon to walk in the light.  In other words, there is a place of illumination that we can walk that carries the weight of the glory.

This calling is to shines forth out of us where all the forces of darkness that try to oppose us are held at bay, where they are incapable of extinguishing the plan and purpose that God has for our lives.  It is a light that illumines the path of righteousness and creates an atmosphere conducive for the kingdom to manifest in our midst.  When we learn how to abide in this light, we surround ourselves with potential that makes way for a mighty move of God.

WALKING IN THE LIGHT

CREATING AN ATMOSPHERE FOR GOD TO MOVE

"For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." - 2 Corinthians 4:6

I love what John said in his first epistle: "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin" (1 John 1:7).  What an amazing truth that we are called upon to walk in the light as he is in the light.  Earlier, in this same passage, John said, "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all!" (1 John 1:5).  Now only are we called upon to walk in the light "as" he is in the light, but the very fact that he is himself light, should suggest to us that we are to walk in God. In other words, each step we take is to be steps that God himself take in us.  Paul described something very similar when he said, "For in him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:27).

This is one of the great truths we hold as believers.  We have God personally present in us.  We aren't just serving some God that exists in the far distance heavens that is intangible or impersonal.  We have a God that live right here in us and through us in a very real and practical manner!

Since God is light, and we are called upon to walk in the light, there shouldn't be any area where we are in the dark.  The light of God is to illumine our path.  It is to open up truth and bring us into greater revelation.  We should become more and more aware of our surroundings. Nothing should take us by surprise. We are to live in the know.  This is the privilege of being in the light.

Another great truth that we can experience is that by walking in the light we can determine what is right and what is wrong.   Deception is certainly prevalent in the world.  People are continually getting further and further away from things that are right.  They seem to accept compromise more readily now a days, where maintaining a life of standard does not appear to hold the importance that it once held.  But when we make light our life, we see things as they are, and not as they may appear.  We become more discerning.  Our level of sensitivity is heightened.  Our spiritual awareness becomes acute.

One thing that is certain is that truth never changes.  Society may change.   The thoughts and concepts of men may change. But truth never changes.  The moment we try to re-invent truth or redefine it that is when we risk opening the door to deception.   The light of God is clear cut.  It is consistent, exacting, and does not waver.

When we choose to make walking in the light a way of life we will begin paving the way for God to show up more readily and more powerfully.  If we will purpose to walk in more light we will see more of a move of God.  There is nothing like having the light drive away the darkness that is around us. That is what awaits us.  The light makes the move of God much easier to follow.  The light makes connecting with God a normal practice for everyday living. It will bring more clarity and perspective to how we conduct our lives and what we do to bring him glory.  That is why we much purpose in our heart to walk in the light.

John said, "If we walk in the light...," which suggests that we have to make this our choice.  Even though we are called children of the light there requires of us to walk this way on purpose.  Whenever you hear God speak to your heart, or the Holy Spirit prompts you to do something, just remember that following his lead is part of walking in the light, and when you obey God and do what he says do, you open yourself up to greater light.  "For with what measure you mete, it shall be measure to you" (Mark 4:24).

PRAYER

Father, I ask you today to help me make walking in the light a natural part of my life.  I want to live here and dwell here forever.  I don't want to be in the dark anymore.  I want to know the plan and purpose of God for my life and I want to be conscious every waking moment of you in my life.  In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

CONFESSION

I have the light of life living in me.  I am not ignorant of what is right.  I am not in the dark concerning what is right for my life. The entrance of God's Word gives me light, and I choose to walk in the light of God.

DEFINING MOMENTS...

Light represents enlightenment, guidance, ability, awareness, and purity.  All of these are available to us when we purpose in our heart to walk in the light.  The world around us gropes in darkness.  It continues to spiral out of control, and increasingly exhibit more and more disorder.  It takes walking in the light to know how to combat the changing conditions that surround us.  We are the standard bearers of truth.  We must let our light shine so that the prevailing darkness of this world cannot and will not creep into our churches.

The word of God says, "He called us out of darkness into his marvelous light" (1 Pet. 2:9).  There is no place for compromise.  There is no place for going back.  We must settle it once and for all that light is the only way we are to live, especially if we want to see God move in us and through us in greater fluency and accuracy.
