"For the Lord is that Spirit, and where the Spirit of the
Lord is there is liberty."
2 Corinthians 3:17
Sin is a disruptor. Its sole purpose is to break harmony, interfere with the order of divine things, and to throw everything around us into disarray. I am sure you can testify that when you have fallen short in an area, because of the weakness of the flesh, that you sensed an interruption with your fellowship with God. It is sort of like talking on a cell phone and suddenly your signal drops to where you can no longer hear the person you are talking to anymore. You can look down and see on your phone that there is still a connection, but somehow the signal is so low that it appears as if you lost them completely.
When it comes to our Christian life we can live so far below our privileges in Christ that we find ourselves struggling with a very poor signal to the things of God, and our connection to heaven appears faint and indistinct. How many times have you gone out to crank your car and found the battery wasn't strong enough to engage the engine? Maybe you unintentionally left the lights on and it drained your battery. If you stop and think about it, your problem is not your cable connection. It's really not even the result of a bad battery. It's simply a deficiency in the charge. Once you get a jump to where the battery is recharged, then everything works again like a charm.
This is what happens in our walk with God when we allow a disruption to enter our life that upsets our balance to things spiritually, and we find ourselves temporarily out of sync with heaven. That's when we have to make whatever adjustments are necessary to regain a strong signal for clear receptivity, and keep our spiritual battery charged up so that we aren't stranded or left powerless in a time of need.
One of the things Satan seeks continuously to do is to entangle us with things that interfere with our liberty. Paul told the churches in Galatia, "Stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage" (Gal. 5:1). Over in Peter's writings he says, "While they promise them liberty they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage" (2 Pet. 2:19). Bondage, in any form, has never and will never be God's purpose or plan for man. That's what the enemy wants to do is to confine us, restrict us, limit us; even control us so that spiritually speaking, we are held in check. God has promised us a liberty so that we can live the life that we ought to live in him. Jesus paid a great price to set us free. And according to John's gospel, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed!" (John 8:36).
Our liberty depends upon our determination to maintain the order of God in our lives. When everything within our lives stays in sync with heaven, then there is a liberty to hear from God and move with God. The Bible says, "The way of the transgressor is hard" (Pro. 13:15). But Jesus said, "My yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matt. 11:30). We can measure our liberty very easily by looking down on the inside to see if we are truly free. Does our fellowship with Christ come easy? Are we quick to pick up on God's leading? Do we find that serving God and doing his will is our everyday delight? How responsive are we to draw near to God in prayer and seek after his holy presence? There is so much that heaven wants to do in us and through us, but we have to purpose to be a healthy conductor. We have to keep the airways clear. We have to maintenance our life everyday so that the corrosion of sin doesn't hinder the charge of God's power in our lives. We have to be on top of our game, and not give the enemy any opportunity.
Every day that you maintain the order of heaven in your life you grow freer to do what God has called you to do. Don't let the enemy sidetrack you or tie you up with things that rob you of your liberty. You are called to liberty! This is your destiny.
