"And having an high priest over the house of God; let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water."
Hebrew 10:21, 22
One of the great mysteries of redemption is that God moved out of man-made temples and moved into our heart. We have now become the home of God's eternal Spirit. In First Corinthians chapter three, the Amplified Bible says, "Do you not discern and understand that you [the whole church at Corinth] are God's temple [his sanctuary] and that God's Spirit has his permanent dwelling in you - to be at home in you [collectively as a church, and also individually]" (1 Cor. 3:16). The very fact that we are called the house of God is extraordinary, to say the least. God's life and his presence is everywhere and in everything, but he has reserved his person to dwell in us. The sovereign Lord of the universe has chosen to make man his habitation. How remarkable!
Deep down on the inside, we have to know that the intention of God to live in man goes far beyond just having a home. The word "house" can actually mean a receptacle that holds something for a specific purpose or use. When we speak of the office we work at, we are describing a place that houses our work area and everything we need to carry out our work assignment. When we talk about a specific facility such as a barn, we know that it houses livestock or grain. A warehouse, a storehouse, a courthouse; these are all places that contain specific interests for specific uses. To be called God's house is no different. We, the church, are the embodiment of God, and the interest that we now hold within us makes us God's work area and everything we need to carry out his assignment.
When Jesus was only twelve years of age he went missing among the company of his family. As soon as it was detected he was gone, they went back looking for him. When they found him in the temple sitting in the midst of the doctors of the law, they were amazed. Mary questioned the reason why he left without telling anyone. His reply was: "How is it that ye sought me: wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" (Luke 2:49). Even at such an early age Jesus realized that the Father had business to do on the earth.
We have been made the house of God for his intended purposes to be carried out. This is why it is so baffling that so many of God's people are busy doing other things than attending to the Father's business.
When God prepared us to be a habitation for his presence it wasn't just so that we might feel saved, or be able to enjoy all the good feelings of love, joy and peace, etc. These all are really just the fringe benefits of having his person in us.But the real cause for his indwelling far exceeds these sorts of things!
We are God's work station. We house within us a call, a divine mission, to transact the business of the kingdom.
Philippians chapter three says,"For our conversation is in heaven from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ" (Phil 3:20). The Greek word for "conversation" is POLITEUMA. It implies a form of government or constitution where administrative affairs are conducted. What Paul is telling us is that there is a specific way how we are to conduct the Father's business. Our work station is indeed in heaven, but the Father's work station is here, in us! This is why it is so important that we see ourselves as a spiritual house (1 Pet. 2:5). We have been raised up and made to sit with Christ in heavenly places (Eph. 2:5, 6). We are to set our affections on things above, where Christ sitteth at the right hand of God (Col. 3:1, 2). We have to see ourselves there in order to be more effective here.
Furthermore, it is equally important to remember we are not without the Great, Divine Administrator, the Holy Spirit, who has come to live inside us, to partner with us in administrating the Father's affair here on earth. No wonder the scripture tells us, "My house shall be called a house of prayer" (Matt. 21:13).
The Great Intercessors, Jesus in heaven for us - the Holy Spirit on earth within us! What better combination do we need to access the resources of heaven, and transact the business of heaven here on earth! As God's house we now hold within us the power to conduct the Father's business!
We have become heaven's substation for the purpose of generating, transmitting, and distributing God's power on earth. That is why the Bible teaches us that we need to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Substations contain transformers to change high voltage transmission into low voltage distribution. If we are to be an effective house of God, then we must become a heavenly transformer, so that the utilities of heaven can be distributed through us in order to serve the needs of man (life, healing, deliverance, and wholeness)!
