"It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

            One of the great truths we find in the scriptures, concerning the work of the Holy Spirit, is that he is called the Spirit of Life.   His number one job is to quicken us with the life of heaven.  Jesus said, "I have come that ye might have life, and have it more abundantly" (John 10:10).  The Holy Spirit has been sent to assure that promise for every one of us by building in us the life of God.  When Jesus said, "It is the Spirit that quickeneth..." he was describing a construction term, ZOOPOIEO.  It literally means to make, form, fashion, or construct into a living thing.  In simple terms, it means to "make alive." 

            Think about what this means! Everything about our lives can be fashioned or constructed so that the life of God is preeminent.  That's really what Paul said to the church of Corinth.  He told them, "For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh" (2 Cor. 4:11).  Paul went to great measures to preach Christ, and it took the power of the Holy Spirit to energize him to go through all he experienced.  In all of the hardships he had to go through to get the gospel out, he was equally experiencing the quickening power of the Holy Spirit raising the level of life he walked in.  That's why he went on to say, "For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet our inward man is renewed day by day" (2 Cor. 4:16). Praise God, there is a renewal of the Holy Spirit working in us to quicken and empower us with God's life so that we are never discouraged...never downtrodden or cast down.  

            According to Romans chapter eight, Paul said, "But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you" (Rom. 8:11).  We know that one day Jesus is going to return just as he said he would.  The letter to the Philippians says, "For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself" (Phil. 3:20, 21).  John said, "...when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is" (1 John 3:2).  Thank God we have that promise that one day these mortal bodies shall be swallowed up of life!  This mortality shall put on immortality.  This corruptible shall put on incorruption! We carry this truth deep down in our heart, but unfortunately that is as far as some folks take this truth.  They forget that the Divine Quickener lives in us now, and that he is capable of energizing these mortal bodies with heaven's life, even while we are subject to the temporal conditions of this earthly life.

            Everywhere Jesus went he allowed the Divine Quickener to work through him.  He healed the sick. He set the captives free.  He broke the chains of bondage.  He even raised the dead.  All of that was accomplished by the life-producing force of the Greater One - the Holy Ghost!  Acts chapter ten even emphasizes this: "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him" (Acts 10:38).  If we will allow this Divine Quickener to work in us like he wants to, not only will he use us to minister healing, but he will raise the level of life from within us so that we not only walk in health, but we partake of his healing power every day.
