Longing for the Great Outdoors?

Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.

-Emerson

He may not have been speaking about stately stone patios and magnificent outdoor kitchens, but Ralph Waldo Emerson had the right idea...get outside and live!

My wife, Cathy and I have dreamed about outdoor living since we built our house over 10 years ago. Our lot has been a blank canvas waiting to be drawn upon and we always said, we'll have that patio someday. In the meantime, our family grew and other circumstances took precedent. Recently, our patio became a priority and this summer we are pleased to say we've extended our outdoor living space.

With spring underway and summer afoot, we move away from the fabricated warmth of our heated indoors and out into the unmistakable coziness only sunshine can afford. It is during this time of year that we begin to dream about making outdoor living a reality in our own homes. So how do you surround yourself with the type of space that rivals the magnificence of a summer's day?

Clients often approach us with a vision of what they've experienced elsewhere or seen in a magazine.  They know with certainty that the ease of transition from indoor to outdoor space is essential but they're not quite sure how to incorporate it with practicality and function while creating a look that works with the existing home.

When we design outdoor rooms, understanding our clients needs, wish list, family life and more is critical in creating an outdoor haven.  We discuss materials, future uses, entertaining, landscape maintenance, outdoor sound systems and more.

We can all use a little luxury in our lives. Outdoors, little touches such as orderly plantings temper the ruggedness of stone or other natural materials. The simple formality of landscaping using plants to frame an area, breathes life into the space enhancing the feel of the newly created "room".  Transitional passageways such as walkways or stairs can create a finished look. Pergolas extend the outdoor room feel, shading a dining or sitting area. Add lighting (think chandelier) or a retractable awning, and you have yourself a little lap of luxury to read or rest. These finishing details, equivalent to beautiful trim around a window, will raise your outdoor living to another level.

If you're considering adding summer living space to your home, we can assist. Whether your family needs a patio to seat 8 or architecturally, your home requires maintaining a look that is in keeping with the historical detail, your needs for function and style will be met. Call TR Building & Remodeling today at 203-664-1303 so we can assist you in making the most of your summer!

Sincerely,
