From Jane's Desk

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~JaneHardingPix
Dear Fellow Member,
2012 has been a wonderful year for the most part, although I'm sure all our hearts go out to the residents of Newtown and to those families affected by such violence. I'm so glad to hear that therapy dogs, amongst them, OZ, Allida Stauber's PWD, have been comforting the children.
Our "emergency" Eye Clinic in December was deftly handled by Lisa Greene and her crew from Long Island. Lisa dived right in and organized the sign ups, with some difficulties along the way appropriately coped with, and ran a smooth and quickie morning clinic with no new PRA being diagnosed from the 60+ dogs present. THANK YOU LISA.
We move forward to 2013 with new energy - myself with a NEW HIP! We start the year with our Annual Meeting on the 27th in Stamford. You'll find notices elsewhere in this newsletter about this and our special speaker plus other events as always. Please, please, if you'd like to help at any of them we welcome you.
Thank you so much for those who volunteered to ship out our 2013 Calendar -Sam Bell, Mary Ann Carpenter, Mary Knoll, and Jan Kwasniak. Thanks to our Calendar Chair Melinda Miller for another great year of sales.
Jane
Every Month Something REALLY BIG Happened
August: NMPWD Water Trial
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 By: Mary Nottingham

The first of the 2012 Nutmeg water trials were held on Saturday August 25, and Sunday August 26 in Monroe, CT.   The weather during both days was magnificent which contributed to the excitement and fun of the water trials. There was a terrific turnout in the numbers of members who came to compete, as well as, watch and support those of us trialing our dogs.

There were some spectacular results during the two-day event.

September: NMPWD Water Trial

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 By: Jane Freeman
If two days of weather could be more different it was the weekend of the Farmington trial with hurricane conditions on Saturday and clear blue skies on Sunday. To all those Stewards, many of them Nutmeg members, who busted their butts to get us thru Saturday, our deepest appreciation, you're the best. To our judge, Frank Cardillino, who kept his sense of humor and positive attitude and then stayed to help us break down, there aren't enough words to express our gratitude.
October: PWDCA Nationals at Lake Geneva
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 By: As relayed by Oz (aka The Wiz) to Peter Forgach

It was a long drive to Nationals at lovely Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Finding a parking spot was a bit of an issue but dad found one. Not sure why the RVs and trucks had to take up some of the prime spots. It really felt good to get out of the car and stretch our legs in one of the two dog runs provided. They finally thought of what we really needed. We got to our rooms that were certainly were nice and comfy. Zoe, my sister, and I each got a comfortable bed. Mom & dad were allowed to sleep there as well!

After unloading the car...
