Sponsors Needed & Appreciated
The Coalition of Principals for the Good of the Children, the Key Biscayne Community Foundation and the Chamber annually work together to honor our island teachers, students and principals. Many children receive awards for being athletic or scholarly, but we give awards to those children who are good neighbors and do the right thing without being asked. If you attend this event, it will re-confirm your faith in humanity by hearing great acts of kindness from such young people. You could help us by becoming a $125 sponsor with a donation to the Key Biscayne Community Foundation. The Good Neighbor Giving Tree Awards will be held on May 13, 2014 at 11:30 am at Fairways on the Key at Crandon Golf Course. For more information, the Chair of this committee is Chris Kruger, and you can reach her by email at cknole30@aol.com or call the Chamber at (305) 361-5207.

Boating Safety Course @ KB Community Center
The Monica Burguera Foundation will be hosting a Boating Safety Course on May 17, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Island room on the second floor. Given Florida's expansive coastline, it's no surprise it leads the nation in both the number of boating accidents and fatalities. Despite a decrease in the number of registered vessels over the past few years, accidents are on the rise. Since 2010, 214 people have lost their lives on Florida waters. Many of these deaths were attributable to operator carelessness or inexperience and could have been avoided through proper education.Participants who successfully complete the one-day program will be awarded the USCG Auxiliary Certificate of Accomplishment and a Florida Boating Safety Education ID Card, which is required to operate a boat for people born on or after January 1, 1988. Many insurance companies offer 10-15% discounts on boat insurance to individuals who successfully complete the course and present the Certificate. To register for this course please contact the Community Center at (305) 365-8953.
