A Guide to Men's Belt's
In every outfit, the little touches and your attention to detail could mean the difference between a great look and the perfect look. Often an afterthought, a belt is nonetheless an integral accessory for men. Fortunately, the basics of good belts are mostly common sense while the rest is personal taste.
- Width: The absolute for a dress belt is between 1 inch to 1.5 inches which roughly equates to the width of your thumb. Anything wider will be considered casual.
- Length: Always choose something that is one size larger than your waist. Generally when trying on belts, aim for something that fits snuggly on the 3rd notch- anything less doesn't give much leeway.
- Buckle: The bigger the belt buckle, the less formal it is. Dress belts typically have very small, flat belt buckles. Larger buckles with rounder shapes are common for more casual styles. Your casual belts can have almost any buckle you like. Consistency of theme is more important than the shape or size when wearing a casual belt.
