120 Bnei Menashe to Make Aliyah by the End of January

This Thursday, another 40 Bnei Menashe will arrive in Israel. That will be followed by another 40 the following week on January 23, and 40 more on January 30. That's a total of 120 new immigrants, all from the Indian state of Mizoram, who Shavei Israel is bringing in just 3 weeks, and a total of 158 in just over a month's time.

Among those on this week's flight: Harel Kingbol and his family. Harel has been one of Shavei Israel's "Fellows" in Mizoram, serving as a community leader for the past several years. Now it's his turn to join his fellow Bnei Menashe in Israel. You can read a profile we wrote about Harel here.

The new Bnei Menashe immigrants need your help: getting them to Israel is only half the journey (and half the expense). If you can help the Kingbol family - or any of the 899 Bnei Menashe Shavei Israel will bring to Israel in the next 14 months, please visit the  Support page on our website. We appreciate your generous donation!

Basia Wieczorek - a "third generation" Polish Jew makes aliyah
Basia Wieczorek
Basia Wieczorek from Poland

It's an increasingly common story among the Jews of Poland: a grandparent, lying on his or her deathbed, reveals to the grandchild a shocking secret - that the grandparent and, as a result, his or her family, is actually Jewish. The phenomenon has occurred so frequently that some observers have referred to it as the emergence of the "Hidden" Jews of Poland.

Basia Wieczorek is one such person, although she explains that Polish Jews refer to themselves as being part of either the "first," "second" or "third" generation since the Holocaust. Where you are in the spectrum can have a huge impact on Jewish identity.

And guess what? She is making aliyah and moving to Israel today!
