A Special Shabbat in Lodz, Poland

Some 40 "Hidden Jews" of Poland gathered last month in the town of Lodz for a weekend seminar sponsored by Shavei Israel. The Shabbaton was geared specifically for graduates of previous Shavei seminars for Polish Jews, including our three-week program in Israel last summer, which we covered here.
Rabbi Jeffrey Saks, director of the Jerusalem-based online learning program WebYeshiva, was one of the guest speakers. He shares with us his thoughts on the sometimes surprising nature of Jewish life in Poland today.

Bnei Menashe celebrate Purim in India - exclusive pictures

Last week we shared with you pictures from Shavei Israel sponsored Purim celebrations in Poland, Portugal and Russia. This week, we have one more set of inspiring photos - from Churachandpur, India.

As you can see, the Bnei Menashe had a grand time celebrating Purim, complete with a Purim play, dramatizing the story of King Ahashverous, Mordechai and Queen Esther; a lavish Purim costume competition; a "Miss Purim" contest for the children (click here to see who won!); giving gifts to other Bnei Menashe communities; and, of course, the reading of the Megillah.
