Fall Update

We have some exciting updates for you below, including information about upcoming opportunities to get involved with LUTW.

We are also happy to announce we have joined the Giving Tuesday movement! Many people know about Black Friday and Cyber Monday... now in it's second year, Giving Tuesday has come to Canada and takes place December 2, 2014. It is a new Canadian day of giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, showing that Canadians give as good as they get. Visit us here to support LUTW's participation and show how powerful humanity can be when we unite to give on one day!

Solar Training Opportunities
November 22nd, 2014
Join us for an introductory solar workshop in Calgary. The workshop will cover the very basics of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology with a particular focus low-voltage systems similar to those that LUTW designs and installs in remote communities. The workshop fee is $45 and $25 for students. Materials will be provided and all proceeds go to support LUTW's programs. Only one spot left - to resister or get on the waiting list for our next workshop, check out the details in this link!

Learn how to install basic low-voltage off-grid solar PV systems on your own by taking part in the off-grid solar PV training field course in the Peruvian Andes. This intensive training program includes a mix of classroom, practical hands-on exercises and site visits to technically evaluate existing installations. The program culminates with an off-grid solar electric system installation in a rural community building. Please contact for more information.

Project Updates

Light Up Larcay

This August LUTW partnered with Texas Tech University on yet another off-grid solar project in Peru. For this project we were in the beautiful community of Larcay. 90 families living off-the-grid have been identified to take part in this project over three phases.During this first phase we trained community technicians and installed 20 solar home systems. We'd like to extend a special thanks to Texas Tech University and students from the Energy Commerce program for being part of and supporting this project.

Solar Literacy in Patahuasi, Peru
This September, we launched our solar literacy program in primary schools. The goal of the program is to help children become more familiar with solar electric systems, comfortable with how systems are used and ensure they know how to be safe around their solar home systems and electricity. 26 primary and kindergarden school students participated in our pilot launch in Patahuasi, Peru. We'd like to thank the students and teachers of Patahuasi as well the energy4everyone Foundation and volunteers for supporting this initiative!

LUTW is often approached by generous individuals who would like to help us achieve our mission so we've come up with three easy ways we could use your help:
Help keep the lights on - we rely on monthly supporters to fund ongoing training and support for local technicians.
Save yourself some money, support sustainable power, and by using our referral code, the monthly electrical fee will be donated to LUTW.
